AIBU for not wanting to turn up of my period arrives..
Has anyone had a full body massage while on their period..
This is at a hotel spa if it makes a difference

Why don’t you want it to coincide with your period?

Whataretheodds · 21/06/2023 07:58

Why would it be an issue?

TappingTed · 21/06/2023 07:58

They’re not massaging your vulva regardless of the time of the month. Yabu unless you’ve booked a happy ending.

brownbeauty80 · 21/06/2023 07:59

I'm not sure of the dressing code during the massage..
all off..?
Plastic/paper underwear..?
What if I leak..?

I'd still go, you keep your pants on anyway so a tampon and/or a panty liner would be fine, unless you're really heavy. You could always just mention it when you speak to the massager, if you feel you needed to.

I've always kept my knickers on for a massage, have you got and shorty types you can wear and wear a pad if your wear a tampon for a bit extra protection. If you've got cramps a massage might be nice to help you relax.

Whataretheodds · 21/06/2023 08:30

You can keep your own pants on but a spa may also offer you paper pants. Your own will be more secure with a pad.

The therapist will ask you to fill in a medical form before the treatment. You can let them know on the form or in the room that it's your first massage and if there are any areas to avoid (massage of abdomen is sometimes included, sometimes not).

Showersugar · 21/06/2023 08:40

Just ask them to avoid your buttock/ groin area if you're concerned but would still like to go ahead. They won't mind at all.

But it's your body, if you're going to be in pain and feeling sluggish to the extent it would cancel out the benefits of a massage, or if you're going to be fretting about leaking everywhere then I would call up to reschedule. I'm sure they'll be fine either way, most massage places care about client wellbeing by dint of being.. well, wellbeing places.

Showersugar · 21/06/2023 08:41

Oh just saw you can't reschedule. I would go with the first option. Own pants + sanpro + ask them to leave your nethers alone. Enjoy!

Mushroomsandegg · 21/06/2023 09:59

@brownbeauty80 I am a massage therapist (although I’ve worked in clinics and not spas) - dress code is: pants stay on, if you feel more comfortable with cycling shorts then crack on, a lot of my clients did; bra can stay on or be taken off (if left on your therapist will work around it and move straps if necessary), if anything feels sore or you don’t want an area massaged, tell your therapist (you don’t need to explain why).
some clients would tell me they were on their period so felt a bit sensitive so I’d adjust the treatment accordingly. Enjoy!

flipent · 21/06/2023 10:02

Have always worn my own pants for a massage. Although in a spa I'm often in bikini bottoms instead, there is no issue with wearing whatever bottom's you're comfortable with. You will also be covered by towels, which get tucked around your pants while they massage your back and get moved aside one at a time for your legs.
You can also ask them to avoid any areas (thighs for example if you don't want them going high up your leg).

Would absolutely crack on and enjoy!

Maddy70 · 21/06/2023 10:10

It's lovely having a massage when on your period. My back always aches and it's nice having my back massaged. Just wear a tampon.

brownbeauty80 · 21/06/2023 10:20

Thank you so much ladies...
It's my first massage so really looking forward to it
U all put my mind at ease...

Have a lovely time x

TulipofUtrecht · 21/06/2023 13:11

They usually pull your pants down a bit and tuck the towel in so that 1) they can reach the very bottom of the back and 2) you don't get oil on your underwear, so you might want to plan accordingly.

therescoffeeinthatnebula · 21/06/2023 13:17

If it’s for a relaxing/aromatherapy/Swedish massage, nothing to worry about. I change my tampon as close as possible before. And I always wear my own pants during a massage anyway.

If it’s for a deep tissue massage, you will notice the difference. I’d recommend changing the massage type if you can.

I have quite a high tolerance for pain, so deep tissue is fine for me normally. However, at the start of my period, I can’t take the deep pressure.

As has been said above, a relaxing massage is quite nice when you’re menstruating though!

MassageHands · 13/07/2023 10:44

OP hasn't said how it went. Hopefully, all was well.
I do massages. Clients are undressed as much as they wish. Some keep knickers on,most prefer to be fully nude under the covers .
Their comfort is my concern and I constantly ask for feedback to regulate pressure and areas to be massaged.
However, not being able to cancel the appointment is weird. I wouldn't mind if a client cancelled because, unlike hotels and spas , I provide a very personal service.

Sorry about no update..
The massage and infact the whole spa experience was amazing..
Had the massage which was soo blissfully soothing then went into the sauna room and steam room for 15 minutes each alternating about three times.. then had a quick shower and sat in the hydro pool for a while..
cannot wait to go back..
period didn't arrive till we got home.. 😇
