Aibu to think if I wore those heels day in day out on all those walk about visits she does, my feet would be hanging off!

She must have an Amazon subscription to Scholl Party feet inserts.

Hope she travels with a foot spa.

I did read somewhere that the Queen did believe that for formal engagements, the royal ladies should wear dresses, and heels do look better with a formal dress (trainers and dresses just don’t go I’m sorry. Call me old fashioned). And I guess Catherine just prefers the super high stiletto. I doubt very much she is forced to wear them and could choose flats, or a lower heel, if she preferred

Thereoughttobeclowns · 22/06/2023 07:40

I haven’t worn heels for years and if I ever wore them, I was in agony.

Kate looks like she finds them really comfortable. I do think they’re a very dated look, but Kate’s not exactly fashionable and they look fine with her choice of outfits.

malificent7 · 22/06/2023 07:59

So bad for your feet...bunions etc. I prefer flats. Katherine looks good in everything tho.

According to my gossip magazine reading 🙈, both Catherine and Megan wear 1/2 a size too big and this makes the heels more comfortable. With my wide feet, heels are torture, unless I spend £££ on wider but still beautiful ones.

This is what I have always done - thankfully for me, I'm a 37.5, so in some instances, buying a 38 is easier. Wearing a half size bigger allows for a half-sole (for extra padding) to be inserted. Also, feet can swell up to half a size larger during the day, so the extra half-size accounts for this, and if a half sole is used, it can be removed.

Buying a half size larger in high heels is actually fairly common practise, and something I learnt when I used to be a Saturday girl at a v. fancy shoe shop in my late teens.

Pre Covid I wore high heels pretty much every day for hours. I could dance in them, run in them , etc. after two years of trainers and slippers I can't go back to them. I wore some to a black tie do a few weeks ago and was like a baby giraffe trying to walk. So I guess it is just practice and toughening up your feet.

This is me. Sometimes it makes me feel sad. Then I wiggle my toes in my comfy trainers and I’m glad.

Don't they slip off?

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 22/06/2023 08:54

I've often thought about this. If I was married to wills I really wouldn't be able to wear those shoes. He'd have to put up with me in flats 🤣

Can it be true?!
I think she spends more than 10 mins at an engagement? 😭

No. That post was rife with sneering and unpleasantness.

AngeloMysterioso · 22/06/2023 09:44

Isn't it that the more expensive the heel the more comfortable it is? Something to do with the arch support, cushioning, balance and craftsmanship? So therefore they are easier to wear for longer?

As an admittedly infrequent wearer of some very expensive pairs of shoes I can confirm that this is sadly not the case! My Louboutins and JCs are beautiful and I love them, but f**k me do they hurt like hell…

That being said, I can imagine the PoW’s shoes are all either specially made or adapted to the exact right size and width of her feet with room for insoles and so on, so she doesn’t have to suffer the same agony!

Same, and I am gutted because I adore shoes and have so many lovely ones I probably won't be able to wear again!! I used to be congratulated for my prowess in walking in them 🙄

BarbaraofSeville · 22/06/2023 09:49

That's something I've often wondered, if Louboutins etc are more comfortable, durable etc, or are they just 'nicer' and more exclusive, and it sounds like the latter.

I've never worn 'high high' heels so haven't practiced enough to be competent. I do have a pair of wedges and another of chunky 2 inchish heels that I wear once in a blue moon but I do have a bit of admiration for those who can wear them for hours at a time and stay on their feet, or even run about in them.

BarbaraofSeville · 22/06/2023 09:51

As an aside I'm struggling to get used to the new titles that some of the royals have, especially the resurrection of the Princess of Wales and the Duke of Edinburgh. Do we also now have a Duchess of Edinburgh? That does sound strange.

Judgyjudgy · 22/06/2023 09:56

shakespearetower · 22/06/2023 09:09

No.

Oh, I did not know about this. How am I just learning about this??!

NotEverORNever · 22/06/2023 09:58

I think they look awful. I don't understand why people wear them. She is so slim and pretty so it's not like she is trying to make chunky legs look slim is it.

It's a frumpy old fashioned look.

chipperooroo · 22/06/2023 10:02

I used to wear high heels to my male dominated business because it brought my height up and I felt better to be able to speak to chauvinist men. Maybe she this does too. Probably meets them all the time.
She looks bloody fabulous either way.

Thatsshallot1967 · 20/06/2023 22:28

Never seen her or any other royal lady (unless pregnant - Eugenie I recall) in flats on formal engagements. I imagine it's just not the done thing and would be frowned upon.

The shoes worn by QE2, Queen Camilla, and Princess Anne are all far more comfortable, and almost flat.

Princess Beatrice was in a pair of lovely shoes at Ascot that were fashionable, smart, and comfortable with a low block heel. She's pretty short, Kate would look great in the same.

You might have a point. It could even be when you dress great, you feel great. Super confident maybe they give her that feeling. I know I feel like that when I'm wearing a "kick ass" pair of killer heels 👠

Me too! It gave me confidence too - I'm already 5ft 9" but with 3-4" heels I would be as tall or taller than most of the men I had to deal with. Heels made me stand straighter and walk taller and more elegantly too - in flats I tend to walk like a duck with the heavy tread of an elephant!

Ha, yes. Louboutins especially are made to look beautiful, they’re not made for comfort. Short walking distances only.

Some high heels are actually very comfortable tbh.

@Thatsshallot1967

"It's sad to think also that she just would not be permitted to do royal visits or walkabouts in flats; inherently sexist isn't it when Wills can wear comfy shoes."

And your evidence for this is where?

Have you ever seen a Royal female on duty not in heels?

Ladybug14 · 22/06/2023 14:06

I used to wear very heels all day at work up until the pandemic. No problem. Everything became much more casual in 2020

Now, at my great age (!) I have arthritis in my big toe. No more heels for me!
