To wonder if there's a fence equivalent of penguin bollards?

I have the age old issue of the next door neighbours using my front garden as a path as its more convenient for them to walk to the end of their drive before turning onto the street.

They've been asked more than once to stop and didn't, I spoke to the letting agent who manages the property of the owner and while it seemed to stop for a bit the neighbours told me they carried on doing it when I was out. I've installed a ring doorbell, have the evidence to go back to letting agent on Monday but was planning to put a passive aggressive boundary marker like in the photo.

Its quite a small bit of land relatively speaking so big planters etc will be too much but it made me wonder if there was another solution akin to the infamous penguin bollards. I'm feeling pretty petty because I am sick fed up of people who they can do whatever they like and the rest of us just have to put up with it. Will consider anything that will get the message across (while giving the other neighbours, who are all lovely, a chuckle).

Hit me with it, o nest of vipers 😂

waiting for you to supply the traditional diagram/ photo of the set-up?

How about a row of the world’s ugliest gnomes - all facing towards the neighbours of course

SoapyBubblesLittleTroubles · 18/06/2023 10:54

I've done my best but I didnt have a ruler and all the felt tip pens have run out 😂

Driveways are purple, paths are orange and grass is green.

It a cul de sac, I am C, neighbour is D. When the houses were built we all had grass, drive and path. E's parking space has always been at the top of the street. I am the only person at this side of the street with the patch of grass left, most people have increased the size of their drives.

The pavement ends at the end of my drive and the area at the end of D & E's drive and is a mutually shared space with gravel on it and there is a fence at the top, it's a dead end. There is the same layout of houses / drives / pavement at the other side of the street. The odd shape orange section at the end of my drive belongs to my property, it is gravelled over with shrubs - it has the entry point for some of the cabling for the top of the street and access to utility companies is granted in my deeds - we've never had an issue with this.

The red arrows pointing from D's drive are the path that they take, over my grass and path because its quicker for them to get to the pavement. Im going to put the fence (or barbed wire) along the boundary on the grass between my house and D as a visual deterrent. I don't want a proper fence because of the cost and I'm fed up with them doing it, despite me asking them not to and confirming it belongs solely to my property, there is no right of access for any reason.

Hopefully it'll make sense!!

Is it really a problem? So they take two steps across your grass and path....why does it annoy you so much?

If you have to do something I say go with the gnomes!

stbrandonsboat · 18/06/2023 20:00

A largish boulder?

EllaRaines · 18/06/2023 20:02

Some years ago an elderly man got done for putting paint filled land mines in his garden. He had a warning sign but still got done for it!!

What about a trip wire?

ProudThrilledHappy · 18/06/2023 20:02

Electric fence

(half joking 😬)

Doesanyoneknowwhattheyaredoing · 18/06/2023 20:04

Ikea have planters with trellis behind - you could put those - large enough that they can’t move them. Decorate them as you want - gnomes, barbed wire, wind chimes, lights shining in their windows

WelcomeToMonkeyTown · 18/06/2023 20:05

No advice but that's a cracking diagram

princesssugarless · 18/06/2023 20:05

That would really annoy me too. Even though it is only 2 steps it would really get on my nerves . Pointy sticks? Crocodile filled moat? Gooseberry bushes? Nettles? Viper pit?

IncompleteSenten · 18/06/2023 20:06

If it's a low fence they'll just step over it which will piss you off more. You need something high. Bamboo screening? Trellis?

Birdienumnumm · 18/06/2023 20:06

I don’t see why you can’t get sufficient penguin bollards to create a boundary impenetrable to pedestrians.

Oysterbabe · 18/06/2023 20:08

How about getting over it and moving on with your life?

ThreeB · 18/06/2023 20:10

Oysterbabe · 18/06/2023 20:08

How about getting over it and moving on with your life?

Why? It's her property and she has every right to be annoyed by people using it because they are too lazy to take a few extra steps.

OP, what about some lovely, spiky bushes in your grassed area?

ContinuousProcrastination · 18/06/2023 20:15

Row of really thorny rose bushes?

Search "motion activated cat scarer" on amazon and position quite high so neighbour risks a wet crotch if they walk past

Or tie a series of fishing wire lines across the length of your boundary.

Throwncrumbs · 18/06/2023 20:16

I would be putting a couple of small trees along the grass but with lots of bamboo stakes until the are bit stable. Cheeky fuckers!

ContinuousProcrastination · 18/06/2023 20:16

"How about getting over it and moving on with your life?"

I had a similar situation and it literally wore a path across my lawn where walking on the same route repeatedly wore away my grass, it looked awful.

She has the 'right' I guess, but what's the point? Why be sooo annoyed about someone taking two steps on your path?! Surely, other people must also step on it (the postman, delivery people, leafleters, guests etc). Why does it matter? In the grand scheme of things probably better for her health to just let it go.

lakesummer · 18/06/2023 20:18

I would think about something like this.

To wonder if there's a fence equivalent of penguin bollards?
Catsall · 18/06/2023 20:18

Why are they doing this? If your diagram is to scale (and I have no reason to think such a fine diagram wouldn't be) they must be saving 2 steps? Why would you piss off a neighbour to save yourself a second of walking time?

You've got loads of options though, given you still have your grass border. Stinging nettles? Thorny bushes? Blackberry bushes, maybe? You could also eat the fruit off them.

EllaRaines · 18/06/2023 20:19

Step on water fountain.

%3D%3D

I would not tolerate anyone waking across my property in this careless manner.

NuffSaidSam · 18/06/2023 20:19

You could get one of those ropes like at a theatre or a movable barrier like at the post office. Surely no-one would cross one of those?!
