Baby rash not fading on glass test

Sorry this isn’t an AIBU but posting here for the traffic.

My 8 month old has come out in a rash that started on her upper neck and chest a couple of days ago but has now spread all over her body. We’ve stripped her down to cool her off and have done the glass test and it’s not fading!

Just called 111 and they’re having a clinician call me back ‘in 2 hours’ but when I last called 111 for my toddler they called me back over 12 hours later and I’m worried that if it’s something sinister she needs to be seen sooner rather than later.

Here’s some pictures of the rash. It looks like heat rash I think so hopefully it’s just that but it’s not fading under glass and is spreading all over her body even though she’s cool now. She’s also getting some larger blotches (see second pic).

Her temp is currently 36.1 but she did have a fever yesterday and the night before last.

Should I just wait for the call back or should I take her to A&E?

For a non-fading rash, go now. Take snacks and a phone charger. Good luck x

hattyhathat · 17/06/2023 19:27

Go to A&E. Seriously. Now. Get off mumsnet and go.

scrantonelectriccity · 17/06/2023 19:27

A&E, hope all is ok x

Craftsandgardens · 17/06/2023 19:28

Go to a&e now. Don't wait.

DRS1970 · 17/06/2023 19:28

I don't feel anyone would criticise you for going to A&E. If only to put your mind at rest.

ApplesInTheSunshine · 17/06/2023 19:28

If it isn’t fading you already have your answer.

hattyhathat · 17/06/2023 19:28

If you ever think - should I wait around for a call or go to A&E then the answer with kiddos is always to A&E.

theladylovescupcakes · 17/06/2023 19:28

Yep just go - better safe than sorry.

upsince5sendcoffee · 17/06/2023 19:28

A&E would rather see a well baby than not see a poorly one. Go straight to A&E and set your mind at rest or get immediate help.

FernGully43 · 17/06/2023 19:28

If it's not fading under a glass, then go to a&e. It's not worth the risk.

Matildatoldsuchdreadfullies · 17/06/2023 19:30

I would go, just to be on the safe side…

But my then 1 year old dd had a bit of a cold. I then realised she had a non-blanching rash. She was not even a tiny bit ill. Just a little snotty. Despite the rash (which cleared up over night), she was fine. After a lot of discussion with 111 a doctor said to me that if I was happy she was well, with a rash, she would be fine. He was right.

TheMagicDeckchair · 17/06/2023 19:33

Yes take them to A & E. It’s probably a minor illness but not worth taking the risk when they’re so young. I took my then 10m old when he had a nasty rash, it turned out to be fifth disease but it looked dreadful.

MrsCarson · 17/06/2023 19:41

I'd take the baby in to be seen too. I did when my oldest was about 9 months for the same. Luckily it was a viral rash as he was getting over an ear infection but better safe than sorry.

Leapintothelightning · 17/06/2023 19:43

A&E definitely. No waiting around with a rash that doesn't fade. I'm shocked 111 didn't advise A&E to be honest!

parliamoglesga · 17/06/2023 19:44

Why are you posting on the internet?

ffs take your kid to a&e

Smartieegg · 17/06/2023 20:04

Go straight to a & e now. When my boy had meningitis he went downhill from happy and normal to needing an ambulance within the space of 4 hours, so please don't wait and see, best to get checked out and set your mind at rest. Good luck and wishing the best xxx

Sapphire387 · 17/06/2023 20:08

I agree with A&E. It is very likely to just be a viral rash, but better safe than sorry. When I called my GP for my 4yo who had a temp and non-blanching rash, they told me to take him to A&E straight away. He was fine, btw... but they did check very thoroughly.

RosettaTheGardenFairy · 17/06/2023 20:12

My 13 month old has an identical rash right now - it's slap cheek. But it's 100% fading under the glass. Go to A&E now if it's not fading, not worth the risk. Good luck.

Yes it does look like heat rash but it is always better to get it checked out

SeriouslyStressed57 · 17/06/2023 20:19

It looks like a viral rash but if it’s not fading under the glass off to a and e.

My DS once had a rash of what looked like freckle bruises. He started treatment within 30 minutes of arriving at a and e. It turned out to be viral
but they have strict protocol to follow.

mummyh2016 · 17/06/2023 20:23

They will ring you back to tell you to go to A+E because a non fading rash can be a sign of sepsis. I'm not saying that's what she has btw - my daughter was sent to hospital a few years ago by my GP due to a non fading rash. She was fine, nothing shown up and we were discharged 6 hours later. The odds of it being serious are low if she's fine in herself but she does need to get checked.

Hope all ok OP. They will see you quickly I’m sure. The good news is she is not poorly so chances are it’s a simple post viral rash and you will be sent home.

Thanks everyone. Currently in A&E waiting to be triaged. Her rash seems to have worsened and is more blotchy but hoping it’s something minor. She seems very quiet in herself but otherwise ok
