Baby rash not fading on glass test

Sleeepdeprived · 17/06/2023 19:23

Sorry this isn’t an AIBU but posting here for the traffic.

My 8 month old has come out in a rash that started on her upper neck and chest a couple of days ago but has now spread all over her body. We’ve stripped her down to cool her off and have done the glass test and it’s not fading!

Just called 111 and they’re having a clinician call me back ‘in 2 hours’ but when I last called 111 for my toddler they called me back over 12 hours later and I’m worried that if it’s something sinister she needs to be seen sooner rather than later.

Here’s some pictures of the rash. It looks like heat rash I think so hopefully it’s just that but it’s not fading under glass and is spreading all over her body even though she’s cool now. She’s also getting some larger blotches (see second pic).

Her temp is currently 36.1 but she did have a fever yesterday and the night before last.

Should I just wait for the call back or should I take her to A&E?

Why are you posting on the internet?

ffs take your kid to a&e

If you read my OP you’ll have seen that I called 111 and was doing what they advised - waiting for a clinician to call me back. No need for your harsh comment when I’m clearly very worried about my daughter

Hope it's nothing serious and she gets better soon x

unvillage · 17/06/2023 20:53

I thought it was drilled into every parent that a non-blanching rash means A+E. They will triage there and if serious there won't be a wait at all. 111 can't assess in that way. Hope your daughter is OK OP, glad you went rather than wait.

Prescottdanni123 · 17/06/2023 20:54

I'm surprised 111 simply said a clinician will ring you back in 2 hours when you had reported a rash not fading with the glass test. You should go to A&E straight away. I hope that all is OK.

Your child has a rash that doesn’t fade. Sitting on the internet responding to strangers upset they’ve been a bit harsh is not what you should be doing.

take her to a&e.

ODFOx · 17/06/2023 21:01

She's said that she's already in A and E. stop being mean. She's worried enough without having to deal with judgy idiots.

ODFOx · 17/06/2023 21:02

Hope she's seen soon and the news is reassuring OP. Flowers

YoucancallmeKAREN · 17/06/2023 21:07

Hoppe you are seen soon and baby is ok x

KnitFastDieWarm · 17/06/2023 21:08

You’ve done the right thing OP - it’s probably a mild viral rash or heat rash but it’s NEVER worth taking the chance with a non-fading rash. I have friends who work in paediatrics who are fazed by very little but this is the one thing they always warn never to mess around with as it can get so serious so fast. Better safe than sorry!

KnitFastDieWarm · 17/06/2023 21:09

And, of course, any paediatrician would much rather assess a well baby with a heat rash than risk miss assessing a seriously poorly one. It’s never a waste of time to get checked out.

mummyh2016 · 17/06/2023 21:10

OP ignore the harsh posters on here. When my DD had it because she was fine in herself with no temperature I didn't know what to do either. I called 111 who told me to see the GP. Saw the GP who was equally puzzled and told me to keep an eye and if anything changed call back. 1 hour later the GP rang me back to say actually he'd spoken to a colleague who said we needed to go to hospital. If a medical professionals can't decide what the best course of action is how the bloody hell are we supposed to know. Patronising and condescending comments help no one, apart from the ego of said posters anyway!

LookAtThatArtwork · 17/06/2023 21:10

Hopefully heat rash op but you've done the right thing going to a&e

TalkingInTheKitchen · 17/06/2023 21:13

Hope that you're seen soon and that your daughter is okay x

Mischance · 17/06/2023 21:13

Good luck - you have done the right thing. I hope you are seen soon and that it is something simple.

GreenIsMyFavoriteColour · 17/06/2023 21:14

Glad the OP went to A and E.

I've often thought in a situation like this I'd try the pharmacy on the way to A and E. There's literally never queue at my nearest pharmacy whereas the wait to see someone qualified at A and E could be hours. If it was something nasty I'd likely find out faster and have something specific to tell A and E.

Mind you, pharmacy and A and E are both on my doorstep.

karakchai · 17/06/2023 21:14

@parliamoglesga she is in A&E. There really is no need to be so rude.

OP, hope your daughter is OK.

twoandcooplease · 17/06/2023 21:15

Best to always get checked I think. Please let us know how dd is doing. I hope you are ok and not too worried, you're at the best place x

Hoppingmad231 · 17/06/2023 21:16

@parliamoglesga clearly didn't read update she's in A&E!

She already has taken her to A&E. Move on.

JuneWind · 17/06/2023 21:19

Hi @Sleeepdeprived

I hope you’ve been seen by now. Just to give you a positive story, a couple of years ago my DD had a rash like this, didn’t disappear under glass.

We were blue lighted to hospital after a 111 call, thankfully it was just a viral infection. All the docs we saw in A&E were brilliant and emphasised how they’d much rather check over a non-urgent case than miss something possibly fatal.

I hope your little one is doing well and gets home soon!

Songbird54321 · 17/06/2023 21:19

I rang 111 for my daughter last month (not rash) and a has a nurse ring after about 2 hours then a doctor 2-3 hours after that. This was about 11pm and he sent us to a&e. I wish 111 would've just told me that at tea time rather than me having to drag her out of bed and be sat in hospital in the middle of the night. Thankfully they tested her thoroughly and let us go home as she was infection free but I do wish I'd just taken her in the first place.
I hope you're not waiting too long op, they tend to prioritise little ones like yours so fingers crossed.
Try not to worry too much (I have actually just rolled my eyes at myself for saying that).
Hope your daughter is on the mend soon

Starlightstarbright1 · 17/06/2023 21:23

Glad your at A&E - hoping it is nothing serious but they would rather see a baby under these circumstances than not.

MargaretThursday · 17/06/2023 21:29

You've done the right thing going to A&E, but to reassure you ds used to get non fading viral rashes fairly regularly at that age and older.

The medics said it was the right thing to be checked out, but with meningitis the rash is later on normally so by the time they have it they're clearly very unwell.

Freshstarts22 · 17/06/2023 21:31

Hope it’s just heat rash

Panda8383 · 17/06/2023 21:39

Hope your little one is seen soon and it’s nothing serious x
