To think that each area should have one dog free park ?

Each time I take my dc to the park there are so many off road dogs bothering us , no recall and a nuisance. The school can’t run or play on the grass due to dog mess and on a hot day it just stinks as the sun warms it up 🤢

can’t have a picnic either due to dogs trying to get at the food.

we once went to a lovely park up in London that was dog free and it was amazing, kids could run about. I’m not saying all parks should be like this but one in each area would surely be fair ?

Off lead ! Not off road 😂

Agree.

Dick head dog owners are ruining the outside for everyone but sadly, nothing will ever be done.

Didnotlikepurple · 17/06/2023 17:47

And another typo it should say dc not school🤦‍♀️

It’s such a problem now that I don’t think it’s going to change but if there were some designated dog free parks then everyone would know where they stand and could all enjoy outside spaces . I know playgrounds within parks are fenced off but that isn’t stopping some owners and also we’ve had issues with bigger dogs just jumping over when we try to have a picnic within the gated area

I don't like seeing dogs being walked across playing fields that are obviously used for recreational sports with football or rugby goal posts

morelippy · 17/06/2023 17:49

I agree OP. One just for dogs too

We regularly have ds football games / practice interrupted as dogs will run on and go after the ball

Yes i think that would be a good idea so that there’s the choice

I would define prefer to take my grandchildren to a park that was dog-free. Sick to death of the bloody things pestering every outing .

Didnotlikepurple · 17/06/2023 17:52

I’ve been shocked by the smell the last week or so in our local park it’s just overpowering sundried dog shit it’s absolutely disgusting

I'd prefer more dog parks over dog free parks

RandomUsernameHere · 17/06/2023 17:53

Completely agree, in fact there should be multiple dog free parks in each area in my opinion. People should be allowed to enjoy public spaces without being attacked, chased, tripped over or stepping in dog mess. I'm not saying that all dog owners cause these issues, but there are too many that do.

arethereanyleftatall · 17/06/2023 17:55

Absolutely agree. Post Covid, the dog count in our area is off the charts. Can't walk ANYWHERE any more without a dog bounding up to you or stepping in shit. Even if it's only 1% of owners who can't control their dogs, since nearly everyone has a dog, that's a lot.

Nitgel · 17/06/2023 18:00

I want dog free shops

LakieLady · 17/06/2023 18:01

We have a dog-free park in my small town. It's slap bang in the centre, so no-one is more than 1.5 miles from it.

I frequently walk through there, and have never seen anyone breaking the "no dogs" rule.

I didn't realise that dog-free parks were so rare.

Doidontimmm · 17/06/2023 18:03

I have a dog and I honestly have never seen a park over run with dogs like this!!

In the borough I live in there are quiet a few parks and all are the same now absolutely full of off lead dogs that haven’t been well trained and although I do see a lot of responsible owners picking up there are clearly a lot more that don’t as my dc can’t go on the grass as every time they’ve stepped in dog mess and the smell with the hot weather has been atrocious

The difference when we went to the park up in London (corams field) was huge as the dc could run and play and I felt so much less stressed as I’ve really and enough of cleaning up mess when we don’t even have a pet

Keep those child’s sticky ice cream hands off my pampered dog. 🤣🤣🤣🤣

^Joke in case it triggers some! It’s a good idea, or at least part of a park should be inaccessible if you have a dog.

AnObserverInThisDarkWorld · 17/06/2023 18:04

The beach we go to has a smaller "No dogs" sections. It should be bigger tbh as nothing worse than trying to relax only for off lead dogs to keep bounding up whilst their owners ignore them. Actually. Owners ignore the No Dog rule as well which means even when you think you're safe you're not.

Would be nice to have dog free areas.

squirrelslikenuts · 17/06/2023 18:05

That would be nice, but not a practical idea.

More and more green spaces are being lost, for new housing - without associated green space. Some of the housing doesn't even have a real front lawn, and virtually next to pavement and roads.

Having more dog-free parks (if possible), means young children and those scared of dogs can enjoy the parks freely.

I’m in a London borough and it is absolutely awful. Since 2020 I think the amount of dogs must have tripled . Every time I go out I’m having to look all the time as there’s so much dog mess on the pavements and we can’t enjoy parks at all anymore it’s just beyond a joke

It's a nice idea, as it would theoretically provide somewhere:

without all the additional animal shit that pet dogs with lazy owners add to a place (people always bring up fox shit or hedgehog shit, but it doesn't make up even a fraction of the volume of well-fed pet dog shit)

safe from the risk of aggressive or nervy pet dogs biting people, whether on lead or not (I've been nipped through my jeans hard enough to draw blood, for the crime of walking the opposite way down a pavement past a leashed dog — owner didn't even notice)

and free from the worry of encountering dogs, for those with phobias (which would surely please those dog owners who tell people who are scared of dogs that they should either get over it or just not go where there are going to be dogs).

However, I suspect that the kind of dog owners who cause the problems would be exactly the ones to flout any no-dog rule. The ones who let their dogs crap everywhere and don't bother picking it up, or let them foul the long grass by football fields and refuse to pick it up because it's fine if there's massive turds hidden in there, who have dogs that threaten or suddenly nip and gloss over it as nothing, or dogs that full-on attack, or who don't keep their ("friendly") dogs under control and let them run around bothering people and frightening those with phobias, don't care about considerate dog ownership anyway.

Doidontimmm · 17/06/2023 18:03

Here, it's not so much that parks are over run with dogs, that everywhere else is over run with dogs so anywhere that they can't go would be a blessing.

We live in a seaside town with a beach, esplanade with lots of green spaces nearby etc - you can't go there unless you want to be attacked by dogs now. Off lead, jumping at everyone, ruining picnics, constant barking, fighting etc. I'd take a dog free park now just to get out the house.

mondaytosunday · 17/06/2023 18:07

I wish there were more dog parks!
Within walking distance there are three parks. One a very pretty restored Victorian park where dogs must be kept on a lead at all times.
One an open rec ground with a enclosed area for tennis/basketball etc, plus an enclosed wildlife area. Dogs can be off lead on the rest of it.
Lastly a park next to a school (but not part of it and they have their own playground).
It has a large area with play equipment fenced off no dogs allowed. An open bit and a smaller but still a good size fenced off area with two goals that I have NEVER seen anyone in. There is a no dogs sign there. I don't understand why they don't make that big enclosed dog park? Dog walkers are the most frequent users of the place (they are there every single day). The younger kids have a big play section and it would mean families could use the rest of the park for running around and picnics. The dogs would be contained, no risk of annoying people, no risk of running into the street. The fencing is there. But maybe it's too much common sense?

It used to be safe in the fenced off kids play area but not any more as you either have people bring their dogs too and wanting them (usually smaller breeds) with them as there are bigger dogs off less about so they won’t tie them up at the gate or you just get dogs jumping over it’s happened too many times
