To think that each area should have one dog free park ?

Each time I take my dc to the park there are so many off road dogs bothering us , no recall and a nuisance. The school can’t run or play on the grass due to dog mess and on a hot day it just stinks as the sun warms it up 🤢

can’t have a picnic either due to dogs trying to get at the food.

we once went to a lovely park up in London that was dog free and it was amazing, kids could run about. I’m not saying all parks should be like this but one in each area would surely be fair ?

As a dog owner I agree. I don’t really think parks are suitable for dog walking in general. We have one dog free park near us and people still take them in. A dog owned by a sensible looking old lady once walked up to my dd and ate an ice cream right out of her hand in the dog free park, the lady just laughed!

This. And I want a teen free park. I’m absolutely sick of being at the park while Kyle shouts to Caleb to stfu because he wants to shag grace, while tossing his empty Pringles tub on the floor.

This exactly , you have to go to the parks early mornings to see the shit that humans leave behind them ,roll on autumn .

Oh goody, the daily dog bashing thread.

🙄

oh the littering in parks left by picnic goers every damn morning when I go to country park with my dog . 😩

Our local park has got so bad that this morning I took a bin bag. Sadly it took me only about 5 minutes to fill it and I only touched the edges. I had to keep dog on lead.in case she ate something left by an inconsiderate human. Nice bit of kebab.. kentucky fried chicken bones perhaps

I.also picked up her poo and the 3 more that were nothing to do with me. Some people are absolutely vile. I hope there's a special place in hell for people who can't be bothered to clean up after their dogs.

I would quite like specified dog walking areas as I do worry that she might do something I don't expect. Her recall is pretty good and she knows not to jump up but she's got a mind of her own and uses it and I can't second guess everything she might do. At this time of year she spends a lot more time on lead because of picnics etc. She's a generally good dog but she's a greedy one and I'm not 101% certain she'd not decide that sandwich was her sandwich... and since she's got a better sense of smell and runs far faster than me the lead it is!!

I'd also be happy to have core hours they're not allowed. When we go in the morning it's nearly all dog walkers in the park anyway and they all race about like mad things. I ended up taking her somewhere else.this morning because of all the rubbish in park number 1

LondonPete · 17/06/2023 23:40

The type of dog owner who has an untrained dog shitting everywhere will surely give zero fucks about taking their dog to a dog free park?
I do like the idea though.

all public spaces should be dog free by default

I live on the Fylde coast . Dogs are banned from our main beaches between May and September. The areas either side of the dog free area are terrible as owners just think the sea will wash the dog poo away !

OverTheCountryClub · 18/06/2023 07:23

We do have a good mix of dog free parks, dog specific parks and parks where dogs are welcome in my area. Honestly dog owners go in all of them. The park closest to us is dog free and I rarely used to see dogs there. Now there are always dogs there and if you say anything you usually get a mouthful and they refuse to leave even though there's an actual dog park literally across the road (you can see it from the park!). They don't give a shit.

Another anti dog thread, there hasn't been one for a week?

Another anti-irresponsible dog owner thread.

As a dog lover and owner of a reactive dog under training I am just as sick of uncontrolled, off lead dogs in the wrong places as OP is.

Are dog owners nor part of the public?

Apple95 · 18/06/2023 07:56

Our village park has a fenced off corner specifically for dogs, it’s the only part of the park where dogs are allowed off lead and it’s fab! Dogs happy, other people happy, win win.

Sunnysidegold · 18/06/2023 08:00

I think the norm should be dogs on a lead but each park have an enclosed space to let your dog off. Lead. That seems to be the way it in my town. The only time.ours is off lead is for a really late at night walk when dh is unlikely to encounter anyone or in a deserted area.

We had a giant lab run over to our picnic once and steal a sandwich out of my friend's kid's hand. I don't think a busy park is the place for leadless dogs.

I agree.

Why are dog owners so reluctant to keep their dogs on leads?

Apple95 · 18/06/2023 08:08

Also I will add that the problem is inconsiderate dog owners and even if a park is ‘dog free’ they will still use it regardless.

I want dog free shops

Oh 100% this. I was on a really nice shop yesterday and someone's labrador was sniffing/wetnosing all the clothes! It also was on quite a long lead across a large portion of the shop so I could not easily get to some rails.

I know I could have said something but what I did was just wander back out.

Dogs are now in too many places. We need a rethink. It was a nice fad but some dog free places would give us all more choice.

wildfirewonder · 18/06/2023 08:14

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 18/06/2023 07:49

Are dog owners nor part of the public?

Yes, but their dogs are not. Dogs and humans are different species.

Obviously public space can't be dog free, or dogs would be trapped in their homes, but I do think public space should be default dogs on leads.

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 18/06/2023 08:17

Many dog owners rely on their dogs for companionship. The dogs are part of their life, so are friendships with other dog owners and the camaraderie in a park.

Your comments are very short sighted and biased. I suppose a hate for everything you does not understand can lead that.

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 18/06/2023 08:18

you don't understand.

Or don't want to, for that matter.

Barleycat · 18/06/2023 08:20

Agree with you OP, in fact I'd ban dogs from parks all together. (Would prefer to ban them from everywhere full stop but that's another story!)

justanothermanicmonday1 · 18/06/2023 08:22

We went to the beach yesterday and my DD loves picking up stones and she ended up picking up dog poop 🤦‍♀️

JuliaSnitch · 18/06/2023 08:52

OP - you're totally right.

LifeIsPainHighness · 18/06/2023 08:57

YANBU.

I live in a very high tourist area where all local businesses have essentially been forced to be dog inclusive just to attract that type of customer. Can’t move round here in summer without tripping over some untrained out of control dog. There is one dog free park where we tend to claim sanctuary 😂 but piss takers try it on and try and bring them in still! Went to Cornwall once and went to the dog free beach (FWIW I love a dogs for the most part but my youngest has a terrible fear of big dogs and he does seem like a dog magnet!) and literally saw dozens at any one given time. Entitled tosser owners really are the worst

I have friends, I don’t take them everywhere I go though. Your friend can be left at home now and again
