I’ll start by stating I don’t drink often , because I’m terrible at it. I’m just one of these idiots that seems to always overdo it and feel horrible the next day which is why I tend to leave the stuff alone. Yesterday, I was celebrating achieving something quite clever ( oh the irony!) and forgot that I’d not eaten anything all day and merrily ploughed into a part worn bottle of vodka and a couple of DHs beers. I also don’t smoke very much at all and seemed to have channelled Dot Cotton last night. So basically I’ve woken up with a churning stomach, the shakes, a sore throat and a thunderous head. Somewhat heroically the little one has been dealt with this morning and I managed to get him ready quite happily before DH kindly has taken him to school . I honestly feel like I might die, the room is spinning and I’m sweaty. I have the school run at 3:15 and I’m supposed to be at a family gathering this evening. Is there any hope of feeling normal by then? I do this to myself maybe 3/4 times a year and it’s always a horrific 36 hrs to get back to normal. I need to do better now. Also, no funny anecdotes to share, I’m incredibly boring and well behaved when ratarsed, I just seem to drink for the sake of it. I’m 40. I know I should know better but I was excited and in a celebratory mood and didn’t realise how much I was putting away. Can anyone help me feel better?

Eat pizza drink coke and coconut water

Catbumps · 16/06/2023 09:37

Was going to say you’d be fine by 3pm, but then saw your 40…
I’m afraid 4-5 business days to feel human again, then probably up to a month to be back to normal!

is this a joke? I’m 46 and if I get a hangover it lasts a normal day. A month??

op - you’ve not been out in 7yrs. That’s made me feel really sad for you.

Ottersmith · 16/06/2023 09:38

Next time get miso soup. You have to wait till the right time to drink it without puking but it will fix you at the right time.

Clarinet1 · 16/06/2023 09:45

Sorry OP, you may think your problem is the hangover but it sounds to me from parts of your other posts as though there is a lot more going on. Your relationship with your DH sounds as though it needs work, your lack of friends….. and in fact the situation is that you turn to drinking to excess quite often with the resultant consequences to deal with this. I agree that carbs, fat, hydration, paracetamol, ibuprofen may help today but I think you would benefit from some counselling or therapy. All the best and congratulations on the qualification!

Ohnohedident · 16/06/2023 09:52

Four neurofen plus. (must be Neurofen plus tho, not the normal one).

And lots of water.

You'll be feeling great. (info from a friend 😚)

So essentially you’re advising an overdose as against the med advice

With absolutely no knowledge of the OP’s general health and history

CatchYouOnTheFlippetyFlop · 16/06/2023 10:04

This is not a nightmare of epic proportions. You are catastrophising because you have a stonker of a hangover.

Eat some stodge and you will be fine. Maybe a little delicate at the family do, but it's your family so I'm sure it will be fine.

HandsupSue · 16/06/2023 10:05

Op you have a great success

and you spend it in silence on your phone, tapping away on mumsnet and getting absolutely trashed

you haven’t been out in 7 years and say you don’t have friends

op, there is a lot to unpick here. I suggest you get off mumsnet and get outside tpday. Shit loads of water.

and come back in a day or two and start another thread in relationships and possibly mental health

seratoninmoonbeams · 16/06/2023 10:12

Carbs, CBD drink and an effervescent vitamin C drink. 😆

seratoninmoonbeams · 16/06/2023 10:13

Oh yeah. And ibuprofen and paracetamol.

ChiefWiggumsBoy · 16/06/2023 10:13

You need - your choice of McDonald's meal (I like a large Quarter Pounder with cheese) and a FULL FAT Coke. Important not diet.

Then 4 paracetamol, OR 4 ibuprofen, OR 2 of each. 2 of each is better, but you won't overdose having four at once, one time in the day.

Also - salt and vinegar crisps.

AngeloMysterioso · 16/06/2023 10:14

Dioralyte, paracetamol, buttered toast and a bit more sleep

Axlcat · 16/06/2023 10:17

ex heavy drinker here (6 years tee total!) 1 berrocca dissolved in a pint of water, with a sachet of dioralyte added to the glass. Only thing that used to do the trick for me.

StoneColdAlibi · 16/06/2023 10:20

Vitamins - something like a Berocca is good
Whatever carby junk food appeals
2 co-codamol, plenty of water
Back to bed for a couple of hours
Get up, cold fizzy drinks and healthy fresh food like chopped fruit and crunchy salad.
Get moving and crack on.

OrangeFlorange · 16/06/2023 10:20

A nice shower, plenty of fluids and some carbs to eat.

Other than that just rest for as long as possible. You're unlikely to feel fantastic by 3 but hopefully you'll feel a bit better.

LifeonMarss · 16/06/2023 10:23

My cure is always a shower followed by some lucozade and pringles and maybe some dry toast

Wishimaywishimight · 16/06/2023 10:24

It's a hangover OP, hardly a "nightmare of epic proportions" - talk about dramatic😅

A huge turkey sandwich with a packet of crisps and a cold drink sorts me out. Also a nap!

ilovelamp82 · 16/06/2023 10:25

Irn bru. Full sugar. Sorted.

Jk987 · 16/06/2023 10:30

Don't be hard on yourself, we all have a blow out now and then.

Sip water or squash regularly and take Paracetamol every 4 hours. If you can face it, a swim or gentle exercise class followed by a long bath or shower will really help flush the toxins out.

Zarataralara · 16/06/2023 10:31

Water.
orange juice
Fatty food
coffee
2 x paracetamol every 4 hours ( don’t exceed the maximum)

I’m afraid 4-5 business days to feel human again, then probably up to a month to be back to normal! Two is my limit these days and I used to love a boozy evening!

Sorry to be pessimistic OP but I agree with this. And this weather won’t help 😐 Cancel everything 😁

Whataretheodds · 16/06/2023 10:46

Stop telling people to take paracetamol for a hangover!

NancyDrawed · 16/06/2023 10:48

My hangover cure is

Mug of tea
White bead toast with butter and marmite
Pepto-bismol (the liquid)

Pepto-bismol was recommended to me a pharmacist years back, after I'd had a heavy night with a friend and we were due to get the train to London to celebrate another friend's engagement. I was feeling like I might pass out or vomit at any moment and explained the problem to a pharmacist who recommended the PB. It worked a treat (although the smell, taste and consistency were all unpleasant) and a couple of hours later I was drinking champagne without a care in the world!

I'm not sure whether you're allowed to take it with painkillers, though, so if you go down the PB route please do check with a pharmacist (I don't mean to sound patronising, but I'd hate to give you bad advice!)

NancyDrawed · 16/06/2023 10:49

*bread

White BREAD toast

Stop telling people to take paracetamol for a hangover!

And why not if it
worked for them?!
