Feeling so depressed ... right before my period

I'm due on in a couple of days, I normally get a bit irritable but this is 3rd month in a row where I feel so depressed a week before I come on. Can't stop crying, won't go out, snapping at kids and DH etc.

Life's a bit of a struggle right now, money is very tight as we're trying to clear our credit card debt, we have 2 x energetic young children and our house is too small for us.

Normally I'm a positive person, but when I get like this I just feel soooo low and like a failure, like there's no point trying anymore because everything is shit and never going to get better.

I'm sure it's hormonal, AIBU to ask GP to up my antidepressant for the week leading up to period? Has anyone else tried this?

Anti depressants don't work on a short term basis like that, they take 4 weeks to settle with your system and then work on strengthening neural pathways that support the hormones reposinble for feeling content and happy over months.

Thats not to say you couldn't go on them longer term! Just that they won't work if you took them one week out of four. Always worth having a chat with the GP if you are struggling.
