My son is at college, his dad lives abroad, long haul over 10 hours.
Dads brother/sons uncle is getting married.
it’s not like here, it’s a huge deal and the festivities go on for days. I can understand why he wants to go and see all of that’s did of his family, he would have a great time. His dad also lives 7 hours drive from his arrival airport.
My son wants to be there, his dad wants him to be there but it will be the first year of his new college course, all in because of getting to and from the airports, flights, the preparation, festivities etc my son would have to miss a minimum of 8 days of college within the first half term/7 weeks. I’m concerned that such poor attendance may mean that the college relieve him of his place on the course.
Am I being unreasonable that I have said that I don’t think it’s a good idea for him to go? In addition to this I would also have to drive 3 hours each way/6 hour plus round trip to take him to the airport this side, likely on work days for his night flights, which is what I usually do but during school holidays when I am not at work.
What would you do?
