Promotion downplaying

I have secured a promotion. I have given notice at my current role that I’m leaving. I have been met with comments like “finally, you’ve been solidly applying for about a year now” or “yes finally, you’ve applied for LOADS of jobs”

Aibu to find these comments bitchy? Almost like I’m desperate or undeserving? Am I reading too much into this?

I would say I’ve been somewhat vocal about job applications eg informing of interview invitations to get time off, stating I’m nervous for the interview, discussing the job eg where it may be based/what company. I have not been banging on though in case I was unsuccessful! I haven’t applied for loads of jobs and I haven’t been applying for a year. I work in civil service so sometimes it takes 6+ months to start a role so it could be the same job I referenced 6 months ago that I’ve got now; that they might be thinking are 2 separate applications.

I think you have to judge this according to people’s usual character. If they are bitchy people, then perhaps they mean it in that way.
If they are nice people, they are probably just happy for you, invested in your career and feel you deserved this ages ago.
