To go back to the dentist?

I had an impacted wisdom tooth out at the dentist around a month ago. I developed a dry socket ( they are the devil).

The pain has stopped but the hole has not closed. Whenever food gets in there, I start to have pain. I clean the food out asap but aibu to think I shouldn't still be in pain?

Is this normal? Should I try to wait until the hole closes or go back to the dentist?

I think you should call your dental surgery and explain what's happening, you might need it checked. Hope it heals soon!

It does take ages but this seems like too long

give them a call

Call your dentist.

If it’s taking so long to heal they might have to flush out the socket and pack it with gauze.

In the mean time ibuprofen and warm salt water rinses 3 to 4 times a day (1 teaspoon of salt to half a cup of warm water works best. Don’t gargle though, just gently swill the water around your mouth and spit out).

It takes around 6 weeks for the gum to heal, 6 months for the bone to finish healing. If in doubt see your dentist.

Hi I had my tooth out Monday dinner time and I'm panicking thinking I have dry socket not in pain it is just sore. My gum was inflamed with the bad tooth so that's still inflamed I will attach a picture I always think the worse but really dont want to be in pain again

laurmil20 · 04/10/2023 16:36

Yes was fine i went back to the dentist as it started bleeding everytime I brushed my teeth. But it healed perfect

Deedoo · 04/10/2023 16:44

@laurmil20 did the dentist give anything or do anything

laurmil20 · 04/10/2023 16:47

He put something on it what didn't taste very nice was a little strip thing what I had to keep in for a couple hours. Would definitely go back to get it checked if still hurting
