Second hand towels and bathmats

Friend was really surprised when she saw I had second hand non matching towels and bathmats, mainly because of a hygiene thing? I could afford Primark new ones, but I often see good quality ones from Christy, Dorma etc. I hot wash with bleach before using and just wondered if others think this is odd??

Sorry didn't mean to enable voting on such an unimportant topic😂

Wouldn't bother me tbh, better for the environment to use what we have or reuse what others don't want rather than buying all new because they match, that's just fast fashion for homeward surely?

Has your friend never stayed in a hotel?

Jitterybugs · 13/06/2023 13:40

Ask your friends if they use hotel towels or take their own on holiday.

Most hotels hire in their linens. Any towel there could have been used by 100s of people. Same with the bedlinen

Your friend is being ridiculous

I didn't even think about hotels, but yes exactly hundreds of people have used those ones! Nothing wrong with Primark I do shop there, but their towels do tend to feel thin as well.

I have Christy towels (house warming gift from in laws). I much prefer my cheapo primark ones.

primoseyellow · 13/06/2023 13:53

@SpacePotato do the primark ones dry quicker?

I wouldn’t buy used towels, but I’m not particularly invested in whether other people do. It’s a psychological thing, I suppose. Just as many people will happily stay in a hotel bed but wouldn’t buy years old second hand mattresses for their own home.

I find them better personally.

The Christy ones just sit there and the family all seem to avoid them in favour of the primark ones or the cheap asda beach towels.

The christy ones are still thick and fluffy after 15 years but fluffy doesn't mean more absorbent.

I always take my own - not because I don't want to use a towel used by someone else but because I have specific needs when it comes to towels and they need to be huge and thin. Hotel towels are usually too small and thick.
