5 year old and boys

I’m not sure if I’m overthinking this but my 5 year old niece is really into boys.

She keeps talking about boys at school being her boyfriend (normal, I thought) but she’s now talking all the time about kissing boys and the like. I answered the phone the other day and she kept shouting “is that your boyfriend” and giggling (I’m married to her uncle).

I have a 4 year old and she had told her to kiss randoms in the park and ask them to be her boyfriend. Much older children/teens too.

I look after DN a lot as I’m a SAHM and BIL/SIL work full time. They just seem to ignore it but I’m not sure how to handle it (if it needs handling), especially as my own DD is now repeating it.

I just keep telling her that she’s too young to worry about boys and there’s much more to life even when she’s older.

This boyfriend nonsense does seem to start at that age. My daughters teacher told them at 6 they're not allowed to have boyfriends and that seemed to put a stop to it for a while. I wouldn't be happy about the kissing random though and would be telling her off quite firmly.

She's probably recently cottoned onto and it's just a bit of a passing obsession – that's 5yr olds for you. She'll probably move on.
