Partner, disappointing response

fucketydoodah · 12/06/2023 07:07

We are in our 50’s , been together about 5 yrs. we both have our own homes, however he stays here usually 6 nights a week. Yesterday I said “ do you think we will be together forever?”
He paused and replied “I can’t see any reason why not.”
AiBU to be hurt by this lacklustre response?

I think the answer possibly was in keeping with the question

Stickmansmum · 12/06/2023 07:08

sounds like a very normal answer.

TomatoSandwiches · 12/06/2023 07:10

That's a very teenager like question imo, his response was polite and appropriate.

Justcallmebebes · 12/06/2023 07:10

Well nobody can accurately predict the future so his response seems perfectly reasonable

Ladybug14 · 12/06/2023 07:12

Oh my! You are in your 50s and you asked that question? That seems very childlike.

I think his answer was very restrained and appropriate

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 12/06/2023 07:12

He’s a man ( presumably); that’s quite an enthusiastic response for a man.

rainbowstardrops · 12/06/2023 07:13

I don't see what's wrong with it! He can't see any issues that would stop that from happening.
If he'd said, 'Blimey, I don't know about that' then you'd be entitled to be miffed. Chill out!

Thepeopleversuswork · 12/06/2023 07:14

I think you were asking for it with such a childlike and pressuring question tbh.

What did you expect him to say?

I would feel really claustrophobic and pressured if someone asked me this.

AmeIia · 12/06/2023 07:28

You are being ridiculous

BitOutOfPractice · 12/06/2023 07:30

It is a bit of a nauseating question in fairness op and I speak as someone who loves a bit of soppy talk.

Totallydemoralised · 12/06/2023 07:31

Why don't you stay at his place? Sounds a bit like he's having his cake and eating it.

sweeneytoddsrazor · 12/06/2023 07:33

My response would have been along the lines of depends if Tom Hardy comes knocking round.

GeorgeMichaelsCat · 12/06/2023 07:35

Can't see the issue with his response. What did you want him to say?

SallyWD · 12/06/2023 07:38

I think your question was a bit silly really abd his response was totally reasonable. A good response.

StopStartStop · 12/06/2023 07:40

Why is he staying at yours and how much is it costing you?

louderthan · 12/06/2023 19:16

I think that's a nice response and I personally would find it very reassuring.
What did you want him to say??

sonjadog · 12/06/2023 19:20

That is the kind of thing I would say. Some people don't do effusiveness. If he had said, "god, no!", now that would be hurtful.

justanothermanicmonday1 · 12/06/2023 19:22

I think he responded fairly to your question.

Lightroot · 12/06/2023 19:27

It’s a pretty standard man response
