To think the NHS hates me

I’ve got bulging discs culminating in a trapped nerve in my neck down to my hand. Causes numbness, weakness and constant horrific nerve pain.

Been to A&E twice who barely helped - second time I was there for 9 hours and despite acknowledging I clearly had a trapped nerve/disc issue the doctor was completely horrible to me, sent me away with no pain relief on a bank holiday saying to see my GP who she knew I couldn’t speak to for another 2 days.

111 then took over 24hrs, wanted to send an ambulance because my hand was numb (which I denied as pointless as A&E wouldn’t MRI me or give any effective pain relief) then sent a paramedic the next day with over the counter stuff and codeine which didn’t help.

The only reason I got through bank hol weekend is because a friend gave me oramorph which I’ve been using over the past 2 weeks on the worst nights to help me sleep but now it’s running out and I have no help and am in agony and nobody is helping.

Have you been to your GP in the intervening two weeks?

Yes. They said they can’t refer for MRI. Told me to self refer for physio

Sorry you are in so much pain, have to persist with the GP - try and see another one if nothing else to get strong meds. Follow through with self refer to physio, you might get one who takes you seriously and can go straight for MRI referral.

At the start of my problems when I thought I had a slipped disk, I brought a course of Naproxen so when second A&E trip occurred as part of my body went numb and a private chiropractor said they wouldn’t touch me, I was able to tell the doctor what side effects could happen when they at one point was about to discharge me with Naproxen, queue; second opinion from another senior doctor I went through an neck and spine MRI on a Saturday. Took around two months in all to get to the MRI.

I did also get around a few days relief from a private physio and whatever message they did.
