For wanting a boob job?

For context I’m 44. Small ( think A cup) very saggy boobs. Body shape an apple and clothes just look awful on me because I have no balance to my body just wide hips and a flat chest. So many more things I could do with the money but never do anything for myself. So am I being selfish? Would take a bit of saving money wise but I hate my body and even 15 yr old girls have bigger boobs than me! Just sick of clothes looking crap on me no matter what I buy.

YANBU for wanting to do to feel better about yourself, but make sure you consider the possibility of Breast Implant Illness and whether, if you were to develop it, you'd be more debilitated by its effects over your physical appearance without a boob job.

@Oysterbabe my dd has no boobs either takes after me but she’s body confident and has a lovely figure so not affected by it at all.

You could work on your body confidence too.

I had mine done 6 years ago & very happy! I had an uplift and implants. I went to BeClinic Dr Plovier in Brussels - so much cheaper than the U.K.! I have developed slight capsular contraction on one side which I’m going to have corrected this year - however it’s no fault of the surgery, it just happens sometimes. Boobs still look good & better than before so it hasn’t affected me negatively at all. I’d recommend the clinic, it’s a seamless journey to get there and they have a hotel package etc. Very professional & efficient!

I say go for it. I had one 18 years ago and they're still going. I had been very ill and lost a huge amount of weight, most of it from my breasts. My confidence was very low and my chest looked like that of a 5 year old. I decided to get small implants, and it was a great decision. Nobody can tell I've had it done as they are small. I did it for me and no one else. I was recommended a surgeon by someone in the NHS.

Back in the late nineties I lived in America and used to attend a gym. As I sweated it out I amused myself glancing at the women who had obviously had boob jobs. There was a type. They'd stand around, chest out, perfect orbs ahead of them, trying to look casual but clearly signalling (to men) 'look at my boobs'. It was kind of hysterical. But sad too. It was as if there was nothing else they felt was interesting about themselves.
Pretty workaday gym too. Lots of moms alongside these babes with boobs.
Obv a long time ago. And another place. But the image (which I didn't feel at all tempted by) has stayed with me

My daughter had them, she started to have a lot of health problems and it took a while for her to realise it was the implants causing it. Had to pay more to have them removed than put in. She's recovered quite a lot but had a lot of auto immune issues. Please read into this and make sure you know what the symptoms are and that you have enough money to get them out if needed. Me and her dad had to contribute or else she'd be still sick with them in.

This is true actually, I paid a bit more to have them removed than the cost to have them in the first place.

I would say OP, make sure you have the funds to potentially have them changed in 10-15 years. Not everybody needs that, but in quite a lot of cases there is a complication or some sort of revision surgery needed after a few years.

What about the scarring?

tillytoodles1 · 11/06/2023 19:01

CreationNat1on · 11/06/2023 10:01

What about the scarring?

The scarring is under the breast, and it's just a small straight line. Hardly noticeable.

whumpthereitis · 11/06/2023 19:07

CreationNat1on · 11/06/2023 10:01

What about the scarring?

The scars are small and under the breasts. You don’t see them. Not only that, but they fade over time. I used bio oil on mine and they’ve faded to practically nothing.

For me, I did have some numbness in the nipples, but it only lasted a couple of weeks.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 11/06/2023 19:14

Research your surgeon thoroughly and try and find one that's a member of B.A.A.P.S and ideally does nhs ops too.
I had my first at age 27 and was an A cup and went to a D.They needed redoing after I had my dc so I've had two now.Im 43.

Lilibert456 · 11/06/2023 19:15

I got an infection in mine after 8 years. Had to have them removed and lost a substantial amount of my breast on one side. It is a very silly thing to do just for vanity. I found this out too late. Please think long and hard before you do this. I wish I had.

SilentHedges · 11/06/2023 20:14

I went through a brief phase in my early 40s of thinking I needed a boob job. What brought me back to my senses was looking at the risks which range from scarring to death. Also regularly over several months, reading a forum for women having boob jobs, and reading about the never ending horrendous problems.

Don't do it.

@Ilovemycatalot

Gosh so many dramatic opinions on here 😂

I thought about having this done for twenty whole years. Then two children later I decided to do it, 40th birthday present from my husband. (Also always been apple shaped!)

I had it done in January. The whole thing from start to finish far exceeded my expectations in every possible way. Having some boobs now is just so nice. Massively boosted my confidence.

I won't say anymore as people on here are so judgey. Feel free to send me a pm 😊

Newnamenewname109870 · 11/06/2023 20:39

do you think you’ll satisfied when you look at them and know they’re not real? Or will you look at yourself and feel guilty every day about it?

How will it make your daughter feel and are you happy having that conversation?

Will this be the last surgery? Because if your boobs are done would you then want to ‘fix’ the rest to match?

No offence, but from what you say you've only had them for 6 months. Many people (like me) were happy with them at that point too.
For a lot of people the problems don't start straight away, you have no way of knowing whether you will have issues in the next few years.

Most people on here aren't judging - why would I judge, I chose to get them myself? We are just trying to warn the OP that there are risks involved.

cookiesandcream24 · 11/06/2023 20:48

Thanks for that @Farmageddon 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

ThatFraggle · 11/06/2023 21:16

People always seem to think they are magically immune to bad things happening to THEM.

People die during elective surgery; some have long term pain; some have horrific infections; some feel ill for years; some have to have them removed; some regret it; some realised that it was a self-image problem and after the boob job they become fixated on a tummy tuck, nose job etc.

But to OP these are things that happen to Other People.

Maybe most are happy, but someone has to be in that 'bad' percentage, but no one ever thinks it will be THEM.

PerfectYear321 · 12/06/2023 00:42

Do fake boobs no longer need to be replaced after 10 years?

RobertaFirmino · 12/06/2023 00:46

ThatFraggle · 10/06/2023 21:34

There are so many padded bras, not just stuffed with foam, but actually squidgy. And chicken fillets.

You could die for this elective surgery. Like what happened to Kanye West's mum.
What would happen to your DC if you died.

You could die during labour. Does that mean everyone should only ever have one DC in case a second pregnancy kills them? DC are a want, not a need after all.

MySoCalledWife · 12/06/2023 13:45

Are you serious @RobertaFirmino 😂

is having a child comparable to having bits of plastic inserted into your body for the sake of the male gaze?

in which world does that even compare 😁

Yorkshireteaalwayswins · 12/06/2023 14:25

Hi OP, I had implants 16 years ago and have never regretted it. I was a 14 on the bottom and an 8 on top. If I gained weight, it went on my stomach and if I lost it, it went from my boobs, I couldn't win! So I went for it and I've never regretted it. I always hated the people that say "you should love your body as it is, stop trying to conform to how everyone says you should look" because I hated how I looked and was then was shamed for feeling how I did.
I can tell you now, my operation was not for the male gaze but my own happiness and I'm very glad I did it. As other people say, do your research on surgeons. I follow several on social media for when I want to replace them (if ever) and like the look of Dr Frank Plovier at BeClinic in Brussels or Dr Antonios Mitsakos or Dr Linda Fiumara in London.
