Scared of wearing summer clothes

fedupmumof2 · 10/06/2023 08:14

I’m trying to change my life and feel very low in confidence and self esteem. You all were so lovely when I reached out before to say how I was feeling depressed.

Could I please get some advice on this: I want to start wearing summer dresses. I actually wear dresses in winter with tights or leggings but in summer I don’t. I feel worried incase my dress is see-through or if it blows up in the wind (I know this might sound strange). My confidence is very low. Can I ask advice on how I can wear dresses and not worry about this? I was wondering if I could possibly wear cycling shirts under or would that look strange?

I put in a lovely dress this morning and even my toddler said how lovely I look! But my confidence is so knocked I took it off and out my jeans on again. I live in jeans and leggings.

I wear cycle shorts under dresses - even though all my summer dresses are knee length!

I just feel more comfortable and prepared for all eventualities should it be windy, I need to sit down on the floor etc.

Nothing wrong with it.

I hope you get some confidence to get out and about and be the fab you you deserve to feel like. Flowers

And if you just want cheap ones that are also supportive primark do ribbed ones for about £4 a pair.

Itsanotherhreatday · 10/06/2023 13:14

I wear dresses all summer - no shorts bits then I don’t care if someone sees my pants! Let them look! And if I saw someone’s skirt blow up I wouldn’t give a moneys! Stuff happens and we move on!

Enjoy the breeze!

That's great if you have confidence. The OP doesn't.

I wear shorts under all my dresses. Snag do great shorts, or Jockey shorts are what I wear. They are very comfy and I would not be without them.

niclw · 10/06/2023 13:19

I 100% agree with the previous poster who suggested snag tights. Theirs chub run shorts are amazing. Im awaiting my most recent delivery now. Much cooler than many others I've tried. They are the same material as tights but a cycling short style.

Advice please! I want to train as a
Medical Secretary and would appreciate any help. I want to do quite an intense course; learning Medical Terminology, Audio typing, referrals, etc.
Can you recommend an intense course and a reputable course provider. How much did you pay and could it be done online? TIA

RuthW · 10/06/2023 13:29

Snag chub rubs or Popsy underpops. I always wear them under frocks. I also dance and they double up as modesty shorts

Mustreadabook · 10/06/2023 13:39

snag tights sell brilliant shorts just for under dresses

PinkArt · 10/06/2023 13:42

Lots of cycling shorts advice but I'd also recommend giant pants. The ones that go upto your waist and the leg starts at the top of your thigh. Some might call them granny pants, I prefer to think of them having a bit of a 50s bombshell vibe! Even if a dress does Monroe I feel well covered by them.
Please embrace the summer dresses! So many lovely options and they feel lovely and wafty when it's hot. They're also the easiest outfits as there's nothing to coordinate, just pull one item on and you're ready.

@Notlivinglife You may want to start your own thread on this🙂

I haven't worn shorts under dresses for years, but when I did they either cut into my legs and made me very bulgy, or rode up and bunched up very uncomfortably.
Are they better designed these days? I've put on a stone, and I think it's all gone on my thighs!

They really are. My plus size sister swears by the snag ones and I am a big fan of the M and S ones. They’re much much better than the options that were around ten years ago, in my opinion.

Sunshineandflipflops · 10/06/2023 14:05

I wear the M&S anti-chafe shorts under dresses. They are thinner than standard cycling shorts so you don’t overheat in them.

I wear chub rub shorts under my skirts and dresses because I am thick of thigh. Lots of slim not so thick of thigh young 'uns seem to wear cycling short type things under skirts though. My daughter is 20 and she does.

Echoing this entirely! Get some shorts, get your dresses on and be cool!

JFDIYOLO · 10/06/2023 15:10

I often wear shorter dresses over jeans / leggings / jeggings / linen trousers in spring, so I'm used to the idea of dresses again by summer.

Most of my high summer dresses are ankle length - my legs are not my best feature so I like to hide them while still staying cool.

I wear a non static plain slip underneath; straight rather than a line so even if it does get blown I have a demure plain nothing-to-see-here effect.

Tying a big thin scarf sarong style over your hips will also stop things floofing up too far.

And cycle shorts / chub rub shorts would give a sporty look if you aren't too hot.

Go for the dresses! Whole new world 👗

I think you need to start your own thread. This one is about summer clothes.

Cycling shorts knickers! https://www.amazon.co.uk/wirarpa-Chafing-Underwear-Leggings-Multicolored/dp/B09BZLHBX8?ref_=ast_sto_dp&th=1&psc=1

They sound horrendous but they really aren’t.
You aren’t wearing two layers so aren’t too hot. You don’t wear knickers! Just these.
They prevent thigh rub (not going to call it chub rub as I have always had it even as a slim 14 year old)
They don’t ride up or roll down and a very comfy
No VPL because there isn’t one
No tights seam line, again because there isn’t one.
Choice of colours so can match your dress.

I also have the snag shorts - much prefer these.

Lcb123 · 10/06/2023 15:47

I wear the snag tights shorts under dresses to prevent chub rub and also if I know I’ll sit on the ground. Why not try a maxi / midi dress first?

Notlivinglife · 12/06/2023 12:48

@SallyWD sorry not sure how I can get it removed. Thanks

CherryogDog · 14/06/2023 07:38

@AngryBirdsNoMore thanks 😊

I’m a little fat lady, and since starting to wear cycling shorts under a dress my life has changed.

i can wander about in nice airy dresses until my hearts content without having to worry about chub rub

Yes get some cycling shorts on underneath. I wear cycling shorts under dresses when I'm chasing my 2yo around and also find it stops chub rub
