I remember reading a thread a while back about effective ways to treat this. Can’t find the thread anymore and now my child is plagued with them! Does anyone have any good advice/ treatments or remedies that worked for them? I know the doctor won’t do much unless they are infected. Posting in AIBU as that’s where I saw the last thread. Thanks in advance.

Not helpful at all but when my daughter had this at nursery they rang me up at work to tell me she had chicken pox 😔

sureigot20 · 02/07/2023 21:09

My son had it for 2 years. Molludab did nothing. We ended up going privately to see a dermatologist who prescribed two ointments and they went within a month.

IE00 · 19/09/2023 15:16

Hi what were the ointments @sureigot20 ?

Nonstop24 · 26/03/2024 11:04

@sureigot20 , hi, sorry i know this is an old post, but i am desperate to find something to help with my daughters spots. she has had MC for 18 months now and they are only getting worse. They are all over her. The doctors are useless in giving any info to help other than time and hence now they are so bad. We have tried molludab but it stings too much. the dermatologist suggested crystacide and i have also heard iodine and tea tree is great (but i dont know dilutions if anyone else does)? Please please can you tell what ointments your son was prescribed so i can ask the doctors about it? Thank you

I'm not sure if I've already commented but here we go... You need to prick a few with a sterilised needle, get the white out or just aggravate it. This will tell the body that it needs to respond and then start clearing the spots away. From what I've heard without aggravating them the body is happy to live with them, by popping a few it reminds the immune system that it needs to get into action and sort it out. My sons went in a week or 2 once I started doing this, as did a friends.

Avatartar · 26/03/2024 11:13

Time was the only thing that worked for us. One got really infected and pussy, antibiotics were prescribed as it kept filling up and was red hot and swollen. It sorted that one out but the rest remained for about 3 years then seemed to vanish overnight

PatFussy · 26/03/2024 11:26

We pricked them with a sterilised needle. The body doesn't reallise they are there so if to prick them it heals them. Worked a treat.

NeedthatFridayfeeling · 26/03/2024 11:26

As per @BusterGonad i also popped a few of my daughters with a sterile needle and they went within a couple of weeks, i iced them before popping to reduce the pain, dried them then cleaned the area with alcohol gel.
Sorry your dealing with this, it's not nice, i'd never heard of it before my daughter got it!

BartiRum · 26/03/2024 11:42

I made a tiny slit in some with one of those facial scalpel razors, sterlised first, and waited for my son to to be in a deep sleep for attempting. Popped some tea tree oil on the next morning and they had dried out by the next evening, every time a new one came up I would do the same, took about 3 weeks and all cleared up now!!

Nonstop24 · 26/03/2024 13:14

Thank you all for this. As you say, in the end you will try anything. The bedtime routine is ridiculous and stressful. It takes ages and always ends up in tears. The baths make them worse, she cant really swim as they flare up and cause eczema. And now coming into summer I cant really put her in short sleeved tshirts as are all down her arms and down back of legs. I feel so sorry for her. I
have popped a few a couple of months ago but made no difference and those are the ones that have ended up scarring. There are now so many because the doctors just ignored them a year ago. Its an unbelievable virus! Maybe I will try popping a couple again and putting alcohol on after as didnt do this before. Thank you

Spongecake556 · 26/03/2024 16:04

For my son- the Dr wheatgrass spray worked wonders. Sprayed on twice a day and they cleared up (and have stayed away since!) within 2 weeks.

Dabbing neat tea tree oil on worked for us.

This. Tiny bit. With a Qtip on each spot at night.

Lemonademoney · 09/06/2023 19:44

Just here for a handhold as it’s a total fucker! Is it just me or did this not exist when we were kids??? It’s bloody everywhere now

I had NEVER heard of it until DS got it.

AliTheMinx · 26/03/2024 18:15

My child had this maybe 6/7 years ago. GP very unhelpful - said it could take 12-18 months to heal. I did some research and read that Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream works wonders. We used to smother every single spot in it after DS's bath and then put his pyjamas on top at night, and they honestly all cleared within about 3 weeks. It was miraculous. He has no scarring and perfectly clear skin now. I would 100% recommend. It was like a wonder cure!!!

potkettleblock · 26/03/2024 18:31

Thuja (?) tincture and then popping the biggest one cleared DDs within a week and four years later it’s never returned.

Nonstop24 · 27/03/2024 11:35

Yes Ive heard thuja can be good and for boosting the immune system. At the moment Ive started with tea tree oil and iodine on the torso ones and crystacide on the arms and legs, just in case one doesnt work. Will keep Elizabeth Arden cream and Dr Wheatgrass on the list now too though if no change in a month. Thank you so much. i also had never heard of it before. My kids seem to be the only ones in nursery with it. They have 34 cousins and none of them have ever had it. And they are really healthy kids so I just dont get it!

Godesstobe · 30/03/2024 18:17

My DD was absolutely covered in them when she was 8 yo. We went to the GP repeatedly and tried everything. Eventually went private and saw a dermatologist in Harley Street. He said nearly all primary school aged children get them at some point but most get so few that they don't even notice, and then there are children like my DD who get them really badly.
He said we had two options: either zap them with a mild electric shock or wait and they would disappear by themselves. He demonstrated the zapping on me. It felt like an elastic band being pinged hard on my skin and was quite painful. There was no way I could see my DD coping with this given how many mollusca she had.
So we decided to wait. Three weeks later they all disappeared virtually overnight. My DD was left with a few small pock mark scars on her legs where I had squeezed a few early on. Apart from that, everything was fine.

Nonstop24 · 01/04/2024 20:15

The ones on the torso are big and very raised. The ones on the legs and arms smaller. I did pop the most prominent one the other day - the largest on the torso. It was unbelievable- just like a grain of rice like others have said. I couldn’t believe the size of it. When I’ve pooped them previously they’ve just been little tiny small hard white balls. So maybe this was the queen I got and they will all miraculously disappear !!🙏🤞🤞🤞🤞

Tryingforno3 · 26/04/2025 00:26

@Nonstop24 just wondering if popping the big one worked for you in the end? Sorry I know it was a year ago but going through similar with my youngest dd

Nonstop24 · 28/04/2025 14:17

@Tryingforno3 hello, I would really say don’t pop them. Everyone told me that but it seemed the only way they would go at first. However those ones I popped have definitely left long term scars/holes. I literally tried everything and spent a lot of money on consults for nothing. In the end I religiously put on crystacide 2 or 3 times a day.
I actually tried this ages ago but was applying with a cotton bud so carefully not to get it on the rest of the skin to cause sore skin around the spot. And it did nothing. But you just need to rub it on like a normal cream on the spots and within a few days they disappeared!

Tryingforno3 · 03/05/2025 09:48

@Nonstop24 thanks for that I will give that cream a go so, I know what you mean about the popping leaving holes/scars 😥

Hollietree · 03/05/2025 10:03

Two of my children were covered in them for about two years! The Dr said they would eventually go on their own, but they just got more and more of them, nothing seemed to make them better…….

Until someone told me to try silver gel. Both children were totally molloscum free within a week! It was miraculous for us. They started to dry up and heal within a day or two, then they all started to fade very quickly over a week.

It was about 10 years ago so I can’t remember the exact one, but it was similar to this:
