To think concert cancelling has become far too prevalent

and I think its a terrible precedent to have been set

I am probably just an unfeeling wench but I think it is dreadful how easy this has become to do, Lewis Capaldi taking three weeks off to be "Lewis from Glasgow" again bascially saying "I know you've forked out on hotels and travel, and thanks, but sorry"

For me it just shows a huge disrespect to fans. When you're a rich and famous star (all from the hard earned money from your fans) and all of the luxury that that life affords - you don't get to turn it on and off, and I'm sorry, but you don't get to put yourself first 100% of the time. Thats the trade off.

I would never buy tickets to concerts again after the spate of this happening. Adele, Sam Smith, Lewis etc.

Hopefully he has made some decent money and can live on a lower income going forward. His tourettes is clearly very debilitating and if he can't mentally cope with the pressure of touring then the reality is he needs to stop.

I agree that cancelling is poor form. But at the same time, you do realise the artist actually has very little control over their schedule?

Tours and appearances are booked by the label/management. The artist is told afterwards of specific dates. They aren't responsible for their diary.

It's the label/management pushing the musician to do the most possible to get the most money possible. I'm pretty sure they won't take into account how tired or mentally drained the musician might be.

He'll still be able to do smaller gigs, TV appearances and promos alongside his music releases. But I do agree with this. It must be so hard to turn down your dream when it's there for the taking, but he needs to put his health first

Its a different tho - LC is ill, he actually struggles to perform - did you even watch him? - he physically struggled. He did his best, the crowd had to help him finish his set. Adele cancelled as the stage preps were not done to her standard/liking/late, now THAT is pretty shit, and i am a huge Adele fan. Was his poorly worded announcement not the best? Yes, sure - i do however, not for one second think he thought glasto was more important than his own fans - LC loves his fans.

I don't think anyone can now argue that Lewis Capaldi cancelled because he wanted to go back to Glasgow for a jollie and couldn't be arsed to perform

He wants to perform but he physically can't

my son has tourettes and sometimes looks like he has been plugged into an electric socket as his head is shaking back and forth so much. When he is tired and anxious it is significantly worse. I can't imagine trying to do that while being on stage in front of 100,000 people and with a microphone.

I don't think he had tourettes before particularly so it has been made worse by the job and the pressure of live performances.

He needs a long break and then to rethink how he can still do what he loves without the pressure of the big arena tours - the anxiety alone of wondering if you will be able to sing on stage or if it will have to turn into a massive karaoke must be enough to set it off.

Tourettes is for life and the reality is if he can't do the big live shows he will need to find another way

Lewis has now released a statement that he is giving up touring for the forseeable

"Hello everyone
"First of all thank you to Glastonbury for having me, for singing along when I needed it and for all the amazing messages afterwards. It really does mean the world.
"The fact that this probably won't come as a surprise doesn't make it any easier to write, but I'm very sorry to let you know I'm going to be taking a break from touring for the foreseeable future.
"I used to be able to enjoy every second of shows like this and I'd hoped 3 weeks away would sort me out. But the truth is I'm still learning to adjust to the impact of my Tourette's and on Saturday it became obvious that I need to spend much more time getting my mental and physical health in order, so can keep doing everything I love for a long time to come.
"I know I'm incredibly fortunate to be able to take times out when others can't and I'd like to thank my amazing family, friends, team, medical professionals and all of you who've been so supportive every step of the way through the good times and even more so during this part year when I've needed it more than ever.
"I'm so incredibly sorry to everyone who had planned to come to a show before the end of the year but I need to feel well to perform at the standard you all deserve. Playing for you every night is all I've ever dreamed of so this has been the most difficult decision of my life. I'll be back as soon as I possibly can.
"All my love, always, Lewis x."
