Pinching from a skip. Yes or No?

My NDN are having renovations done and they have a skip outside their house full of random stuff. I just saw someone drive past, then reverse the car, get out and start rummaging. They grabbed a couple of bits out, stuck in their car and drove off. I found it quite funny (but a bit cheeky) personally and dont think id mind if someone knicked something from a skip outside my house. But it got me thinking. Would you do it? Is it ok? Or is it's stealing?

The skip we looked at was at the roadside. And it was all falling off any way. Some round our way will set fire to skips or fill with their junk. Teens tend to chuck stuff on the road.

@ReformedWaywardTeen - that's so lovely! What a kind lady.

I am always overfilling my skips so they won't take them so would love if people would take stuff! Skips are expensive so the more you can get in the better. Might be polite to ask first but other then that I would have no issue as they say, ones mans junk is another mans treasure

You can’t keep a Womble, out of a skip 😂

I could shout at them Via the Ring doorbell while hiding behind the sofa

It’s fine. They’re chucking it anyway, it saves it going to landfill, you get something you needed, and they get extra space in their skip to fit more stuff! That’s a win-win-win-win I think! I knew a friend at college who furnished his whole small flat out of other peoples cast offs and skip diving.

An elderly lady died 3 or 4 doors down from me last year, and her 2 adult DC cleared out her house and garden and threw SO much stuff away. (Onto/into a skip!) Me and a couple of neighbours rifled through it. I got a birdbox, a birdbath, 2 hanging baskets with artificial flowers, 11 plant pots, and a 3 tier bathroom cabinet! The 2 other neighbours got loads of shit too, including some shoes, flip flops, coathangers, a jacket, some tinsel, a 3 ft Christmas tree, and a bucket, and a fire surround. May have been 'stealing' but the stuff was put there for scrapping! As pps have said, it's less in landfill and freed up some of the skip for the next day.
