Missing out on payrise

I'm just wanting to get some perspective here please!

My workplace has given all staff an inflation pay rise, it was announced and it was to be backdated a couple of months.

I'm currently on maternity leave and I've been in touch with work to ask about it as I hadn't heard anything. They've told me I won't be given the rise until I return to work. The pay I receive is currently half then drops down to SMP this month. They would've only needed to pay me a little extra for 2 months.

AIBU to expect to receive this considering how little cash it'll actually be to them in real terms until I return?

It depends how your work calculates it. Our enhanced mat leave is based on our pay during the qualifying period (which is the same one that applies for stat mat pay), so is defined then. Therefore it would be the same for me.

Good point, thank you.

We did receive another inflation rise not long before I went off and my whole mat leave pay was based on my salary then, not during any qualifying weeks so I assumed they weren't working off a qualifying period. Urgh
