I work at a place where we provide functions for young families and provide snacks etc. Today we had kids in of 3 and 4 years old. Asked the lady at work (around my age, so late thirties) to cut up some cucumber, cherry tomatoes and carrot and put them into a bowl.
She chopped the carrots up into too thick pieces, same with the cucumber and she was slicing the mini cherry tomatoes down the middle and was getting sprayed.
It looked a complete mess and because she had done it all so thick cut, there wasn't enough to go around.
I don't like to judge but shouldn't cutting up fruit and vegetables be a simple task for an adult ?

No such thing as too thick slices of cucumber?!? My DC eat it in big chunks!

originalglazedsingle · 07/06/2023 17:06

If she couldn't figure out why there wasn't enough while looking at the thick pieces, then good luck to her 😂.

Some people are not terribly smart, or have no common sense. Not much you can do about it. It doesn't matter if you don't know how much veg a 4 year old would eat, it's pretty obvious when you need to spread the food around everybody.

TinaTeaspoons · 07/06/2023 18:10

Point is, It had to be done all over again. She has made a right mess of the tomatoes in particular.
She has two teenagers by the way...
Also she was aware of how many children there were...

Ho w do you correctly cut a cherry tomato then? Have I been doing it wrong?!

What do you mean it had to be done over again? As in you had extra salad anyway?!

TheSnowyOwl · 07/06/2023 18:28

It sounds like you let her do it all wrong without showing her or helping her to get it right and have the criticised her help and are now having a further bitch about her on here.

‘I don’t like to judge’ is a complete lie. I really need to know how to cut up cherry tomatoes incorrectly. No one in our house eats them unless roasted. At 41 I have never cut up a cherry tomato and want to know how you can do it incorrectly.

I am more interested to know how you manage to cut a cherry tomato in such a way that you spray yourself 😂. Did she just squash them between her palms or something?

pictoosh · 07/06/2023 18:31

Just sounds like she wasn't very interested.

Yeah I think if you just sort of squash it with the knife rather than saw it with a serrated edge it can get a bit messy. But I don't know why you'd have to start again!

Seeline · 07/06/2023 18:34

Maybe she cut the stuff the way she has always done it for her children then?

Exactly my thinking

JudgeRinderonTinder · 07/06/2023 18:35

You sound awful and ignorant, wise up. She might have problems with dexterity, like me. Or has that never crossed your mind? Shouldn’t it be easy for an adult to consider that there might be some problem before judging?

MaryKateDanaher · 07/06/2023 18:37

You obviously dislike her. What a cunty thread. 🙄

LifeExperience · 07/06/2023 18:38

The tomatoes will not squirt if you sharpen your knife.

TinaTeaspoons · 07/06/2023 18:39

She was cutting down the middle and all the liquid was seeping out. It then produced scraggly pieces which looked ridiculous. Coupled with thick chunks of carrot and cucumber. Yes, did have a sharp knife.

I'm just surprised as thought it was a basic thing

She chopped them.

If you wanted a specific size/shape you should probably be letting staff know.

She's in her 30s, not a mind reader.

Whataretheodds · 07/06/2023 18:40

How should she have cut the tomatoes?

How would you cut them? In thirds?

@TinaTeaspoons you sound like an absolute pleasure to work with, please do let me know if any more jobs come up working for you!

PercyMcPigface · 07/06/2023 18:44

Isn't this just a case of at the time it was happening saying "oh look here Jane, it it's for kids of this age we need to cut them into batons / thin slices / whatever floats your boat" and then cracking on with the rest of your function?

Oooh oooh oooh. I CAN help you with the one!!!

you use a blunt knife!

Seeline · 07/06/2023 19:21

How thick is too thick for a carrot stick?
Mine vary depending on the size/shape of the carrot - I didn't realise that there was an official size.
