We own a cursed spoon…

DH thinks I’m insane, obviously. But 12 years ago we moved into our first flat and there was one item, ONE ITEM, remaining in it when we moved in: a child’s metal spoon with a picture of a staring teddy bear on it and the name ‘Michael’. At first we found it quite charming, calling it The Michael Spoon, and we brought it with us each time we moved house after that.

It took us a stupidly long time to realise that that had been when we started to experience tragedy after tragedy. We’ve had several deaths in the family, some really horrible, and such a lot of bad luck that people freely comment on it.

I don’t think I really believe in cursed things but this spoon now gives me the creeps to such an extent that I’m desperate for it to be gone. The trouble is, if we just chuck it in the sea or something, might the curse stay with us as the last people who had it, and then we couldn’t find it to change that? I’ve Googled curse removal but there are too many different options and apparently it can make the curse worse! Any suggestions? Please help!

I don’t understand why you think it’s the spoon and not the house itself?

Because a cursed house makes much more sense.

KitchenSinkLlama · 07/06/2023 09:59

OP. I'm wondering if by attributing a cursed status on the spoon, which you know deep down is ridiculous, you are somehow making sense of what has happened. Tragedy happens despite spoons. It's all around us and by trying to make some sort of sense of it, you are focusing on something you have made up in your mind.

The truth is, the spoon was forgotten by the previous owner (I'm sure most houses when vacated have something left behind by mistake). It is nothing more than that. If you want to symbolically get rid of your grief, throw it in the bin.

There are no curses, but people can create their own hell by imagining that there are.

I'm sorry you have been through so much.

Random789 · 07/06/2023 09:59

lol that one third of poll repondents on this thread think that it is reasonable to attribute life events to a cursed spoon. Grin

What about all the other events that occurred on the same day as the spoon acquisition, such as boiling a kettle for the 17,123rd time? Any one of them could have been the culprit.

Yeah I think I’ve see too many horror films 😂 definitely more cursed houses, malelovent spirits than spoons. Don’t think I’ve ever seen a cursed spoon film - I might market it!!

"Tragedy happens despite spoons."

So true. I'm going to look on etsy for inspirational wall art with those words.

IOweMySanityToBasilParsley · 07/06/2023 10:04

Anyone else want to see a picture of the Michael spoon? 👀

I agree that it's beyond unlikely to be the spoon, but the fast flowing water sounds to be a good idea.

It's not when it involves littering and polluting the environment.

FFS. It's ONE small spoon.

Noooo! That will curse us all.😬

I'm a witch. Cursed items cannot work if they are put into running water. Find a fast flowing river and throw it in. Job done.

Yes I totally agree .

And she's moved, anyway.

HoldingTheDoor · 07/06/2023 10:08

I thought that Wiccans were supposed to respect nature yet here we have several actively advocating chucking any old bit of junk into them.

HoldingTheDoor · 07/06/2023 10:09

That's why rivers are full of crap. The attitude that it's just one. It's not ok whether it's one or several.

Please do. I'd love to see a cursed spoon film.

How do you know that you're not cursed and the spoon is the only thing stopping much worse things happening? For one thing your household seem to be the only ones still alive.... Give the spoon away to someone who'll appreciate its powers.

Oooh this!! The spoon is your protective shield.

beanii · 07/06/2023 10:29

You can cleanse it using white sage.

You are absolutely right in thinking that bad things can attach themselves to objects.

Maybe see if there is a shamen in your area to help.

This

Skyrim41 · 07/06/2023 10:38

Just chuck it in the bin. I had a cursed bracelet as soon as I put it on bad stuff happened I took it off and every thing went back to normal. It might be all psychological but if it helps it helps

crabbyoldappletree · 07/06/2023 10:39

Of course it's not cursed. The problem though, is in your mind it is, and therefore anything 'unlucky' will be deemed to be the spoons fault!
So I'd pass it on to a charity shop, someone will no doubt find it, love and 'the curse' will be lifted!
Please don't throw it in a river, if it's not sterling silver, then as the metal degrades it will leach out crap. Or someone might spot it glinting under the water in the sunlight and risk life and limb to get it.

BohrMagneton · 07/06/2023 10:41

are you quite well?

TattyOne · 07/06/2023 10:41

Definitely take it to a medium and see what they say.

TattyOne · 07/06/2023 10:44

Some years ago I bought a beautiful ring from a charity shop for only £1.50. It was lovely to look at but OMG I had some horrendous bad luck for several weeks when wearing it. It got to the point I dumped it in a public bin.

I also find I can't wear real gold as it brings me bad luck.

Lessstressedhemum · 07/06/2023 10:45

Cleanse the spoon in a dish of rainwater or seawater under a full moon. Put it in a box with a mix of nettles, sage and sea salt then bury it at a crossroads.
Smudge your house with sage to get rid of bad energy.

Smudge your house with sage to get rid of bad energy.

Then hop around the garden naked on one leg 3x while singing Come On Eileen. (Actually don't. It's a terrible song)

I've got a cursed bag of rubbish. Can I chuck that into a river?
