Has anyone dealt with it? We are waiting for a surgery for about 6 months now. Ds is 2.5 yrs old.

I am wondering what to expect before and after surgery. His testicle is quite huge and it is worrying me

My DS had this operation at the same age as yours, but about 20 years ago. The swelling came and went as part of his bowel pushed in and out of his testicle. He was never in any pain and it didn’t seem to bother him, even when very large.

The day of the operation went very smoothly. I remember that we went in the morning and he wasn’t allowed any breakfast, that was probably the hardest part!
he didn’t like having the mask on his face to administer the anaesthetic, but within a few seconds, he was under and they wheeled him away, promising to take good care of him.

A few hours later, he was back in a hospital bed, a bit drowsy, and I remember we stayed until he had woken properly and eaten a sandwich. I don’t know if that would still be the same after all these years, but I would take some snacks you know he really likes. My son was given a cheese sandwich which he has always hated and it was hard to find something he would eat in order to be released! He’s also autistic so couldn’t be persuaded to try it.

Recovery was very quick and easy and he was left with a very small scar on his lower belly. he’s had no issues since, it really was okay. I hope your son gets sorted soon

I echo the PP but my son had this very recently. He was running around normally after a day, and his testicles are now a normal size

Thank you both. From your experience how long more or less should I keep him home? He goes to childminder 3 days a week.

My son had the same op age a bit under 2. It was fine. I thought he might be a bit calmer for a little while after he came round from the anaesthetic but he was tearing round the ward within about half an hour of coming round. He didn’t seem particularly sore afterwards. He would have been ok to go to a childminder the next day I think but I guess it might vary from child to child.

Hi, my boy had this a few years ago. Everything went smoothly and he was fine pretty much straight after the op. I prob kept him off nursery a few days and a bit of calpol and he was right as rain!
