Speed camera flashed me doing 41 on a 40

Hi all, I got flashed by a speed camera last night on a dual carriageway with a speed limit of 40. I was doing 41 (I know as I had an eye on the speedometer as I went through the speed camera markings).

Do you think I will get a fine / points? Or will they assess it and find it's in the tolerance limit?

Other context is there have been a few pedestrians killed on people turning into junctions from this dual carriage way.

Thank you for your comments in advance.

The car speedometer is not that accurate so you may well have been doing under 40

I would strongly recommend looking at something like top motoring barrister Andrew Thompson's website (counsel.direct) rather than the made up stuff being posted in this thread, such as getting an SAC for 31 in a 30... 🙄

These are thresholds for action:

DH got a fine a few years ago for going 32 in a 30. He had to go a on a speed awareness course.

No he didn't.

No he didn't.

Yes, he did Hmm I saw the letter!

Why would I lie about something so pointless?

SofiaSoFar · 06/06/2023 18:32

There is absolutely no way whatsoever that he could get a fine for 32 in a 30 and have to attend an SAC.

You're 'misremembering' if you're not making it up.

lol, I'm not "misremembering" anything - I don't have to prove anything to you either 😂

I remember questioning it at the time as I thought it was utterly batshit - but it was true and he did the SAC online via zoom.

So he didn't get a speeding fine, he got a speed course?

You don't get both.

Yes - by fine I meant he had to pay for the course, sorry!

My DH got a
£100 fine for
Doing 22 or23 in a 20MPH zone in London at 7 am when the roads were empty.

Legally speaking the tolerance threshold is a guide. If a county wanted to send an offence letter to someone doing 31 in a 30 legally they could.

They don't though because the paperwork and the admin of getting everyone on a course is too much. Plus if a camera is slightly mis calibrated it's even more paperwork when everyone who has an offence on the same day appeals their offence 😆 (speaking from experience here on the latter)
