Council Pensions

my Friend is retiring soon and has suggested I go for an advertised post in the council. One of the appealing things is the pension. But I’m unclear surely she can’t be getting more in pensions pay than her final salary pay ??? She was on defined benefits

No, she won't be, from her employment scheme, it's usually a maximum of about 50-60% depending on how long she's been a member and whether she took a lump sum. She'll have the same state pension as anyone else.

But your friend's pension could be very different to that available to a new entrant now. There's been a lot of changes to final salary schemes over the years but presumably if she's now at retirement age, she'll have been protected from most of these.
