No side effects - does this mean SSRIs won’t work?

Been on sertraline for 5 days now. Been expecting the worst. On the first night I really struggled to sleep, heart was racing and I felt nauseous for the first two days. Lost appetite.

But now I feel completely normal, no worse, and am genuinely getting zero side effects? I’ve read so many horror stories about feeling worse and side effects that I’m just really paranoid it means they’re not going to work!

Anyone had this experience on SSRIs and they worked?

I've not long started on citalopram, I've had very little side effects for the first 2 weeks on 10mg, but I increased to 20mg yesterday and started to feel side effects last night so maybe a low dose won't affect you? Doesn't mean it won't work! I already feel a bit less anxious, less tearful and able to cope better. Stick at it!

I had a spell on fluoxetine which has equally as scary side effects, I was grand on them after a few days! They were wonderful for me and carried me through a very challenging period. I wouldn’t hesitate to take them again if I felt I needed them. I hope you have the same positive experience.

You did have some side effects - they just weren't as bad as other people have experienced!

I was fine by day 5 of sertraline. They are definitely working for me :)

Coming off Sertraline was harder than starting it for me, but all of it was better than paroxetene!

I was rough as buggery on sertraline for the first week, I had awful dizzy spells that felt like the room was turning upside down.

It got better when I started taking it in the evening, which generally isn't recommended as it can cause insomnia, but it made the dizziness SO much better.

Not at all. The ones I take are apparently known for bad side effects but I didn't get any and they do work for me.
