To be annoyed?

I was queuing for ice cream the other day and there were two kids standing near the counter asking people who were at the front to buy them an ice cream. I said no but they just kept asking me. They asked about five times. I just felt really annoyed and stressed.

I know I will be absolutely flamed, but aibu to be annoyed and say no?

Irritating but annoyed & stressed ?

JenniferBarkley · 06/06/2023 12:14

Obviously YANBU, apart from anything else I wouldn't be buying food for strange children in case of allergies. Probably would have been best to just ignore them.

dancinginthesky · 06/06/2023 12:16

I mean it's irritating but it wouldn't still be bothering me once I left the van

BrownKnoll · 06/06/2023 12:16

You definitely being unreasonable. You should just buy ice cream for anyone that demands it.

Really? I can't imagine anyone thinking it is unreasonable to not buy an ice cream for a random kid you don't know.
I don't think you really think this is unreasonable.

EvilElsa · 06/06/2023 12:25

How old? Obviously YANBU, but I wouldn't have thought of it past the first no. Surely you just ignore after that? If they were really little I'd probably just say go and ask your parent. Surprised the ice cream stand owner hadn't told them to go away.

I would say around 10.

I don’t think anyone would think YABU to not buy random kids ice cream but to still be thinking about it?!

funinthesun19 · 06/06/2023 12:30

At the time it would have really annoyed me to have some random 10 year olds pestering me to buy them an ice cream. I would have felt like telling them to go away at that age.

martha4clark · 06/06/2023 12:31

Move on; life's too short to get worked up about something that's in the past and quite trivial.

I want to go back to that stand again but I'm worried they will be there. I hate it when people pester me. I get really really stressed.

Seems odd, initially I thought they were smaller, had money but too short to reach the counter, so needed assistance with the actual transaction but no i wouldn't be buying random kids ice-cream.

Good grief think how many ice-creams they'd get in a day if loads of random bought them one.,

BreviloquentBastard · 06/06/2023 12:36

Lol some of the local kids try this occasionally. They did it to me and I just laughed and said "get a job and buy your own" then ignored them.

YABU to still be bothered by what amounts to cheeky kid behaviour

Oh I see. Honestly they probably won’t still be there. But (assuming you plan to go alone) just take some headphones, stick them in and ignore the kids. If you don’t plan to go alone just chat with whomever you’re with and also ignore the kids.

When we were queuing recently for ice creams there were two boys, around 7/8 who kept pushing in the queue and asking the seller for ice cream but they only had about ten pence.

The seller asked them to stop pushing in, also that's not enough money and asked where their parents were- their mums were sitting on a bench drinking coffee, but they wouldn't give them money for ice cream.

Anyway a couple behind us went and bought them an ice cream each!
Then of course the mums wanted to know who had bought them, saying "where did you get those?? Who bought you those?? 🤦🏻‍♀️ it was a bit cringe.
No way would I'd have bought ice cream for children I don't know!

ComeTheFuckOnBridgett · 06/06/2023 12:50

Why aren't you buying everyone in and around the queue ice cream?!

I really don't understand why you're still thinking about it.

I mean this is so obvious that you're actually making me doubt myself but...

A.) Tell tell ice cream van person to move them on.

B.) Tell them to go away.

C.) Ignore them completely.

This 👆

Also, please let us all know where and when you will be next time you are buying ice cream so that we can all be there to demand one 😜
