Paid £400 for a 3 day trip to a theme park, with a themed room, paid the extra £25 for cancellation protection up to 48 hours beforehand. 36 odd hours before we are due to leave my 4 year old has a blazing temperature. I'm a lone parent who has saved up to take him as he's been desperate to go for the past year. Just wanted one surprise trip away before we were tied to school holidays. Theme park refusing to let me go a different day which I can't argue as it is in the terms and conditions. I could CRY right now I'm so gutted. Son is fine, negative for covid, lots of colds going round and he is prone to a high temp whenever he has a virus. Just wanted to do one nice thing and it's looking like I'm just going to have to sack it off. What are the chances of a high fever being gone in 36 hours?

Its not too late to get insurance....

Yes it is

Greengagesnfennel · 06/06/2023 07:40

Mine never bounced back quickly when little. Is there an option to sell the ticket to someone else? Then you can rebook when he is better.

How do you have a 4 year old, live in the middle of nowhere, have a car but never used a pram?

I would guess countryside, lack of pavements and tarmac paths.

AndIKnewYouMeantIt · 06/06/2023 08:05

He'll probably shake it off but take him anyway. He can sleep in the car and might be ok for days 2 and 3.

Might be worth going to the Dr anyway - mine's is always, always ear infection.

You use a carrier for a four year old?

Pretty sure a 4 year old can walk, and a three year old too.

catsoop · 06/06/2023 08:15

How is he today OP?

I'd just pack plenty of calpol/ibuprofen and crack on.

They definitely offer more protection but I wouldn't go so far as saying debit cards are dangerous.

OP, my bank advised me against using a debit card for online purchases. (Just saying. I realise it’s not the point of your post.)

Bathintheshed · 06/06/2023 09:04

Are you due to go tommorow? With a day of rest mine would usually be right as rain by tommorow. Especially with a pram to nap in. Fingers crossed for you!

BarleySugars · 06/06/2023 09:08

Unless they had a stomach bug i'd dose mine up with paracetemol and ibuprofen and go anyway, i think sugar and excitement will see him through!

Yes this, I bought a pram and live rurally - complete waste of money. Got loads of use from the carrier though.

of course they can walk ,but it doesn't stop parents to plonk theirs in a car seat and drive them around, so why not a buggy instead?

If the parents doesn't drive, it's helpful when you need to see a doctor, when the child is unwell, or when you have to drag them across an airport in the middle of the night.

I live rurally, I used my pram non-stop when mine were little. So much more practical than a carrier. If you buy an all-terrain one, you go absolutely everywhere unless it really is too muddy.

OP, I hope your DS wakes up perky and you can go on your trip.

As an aside, how on earth has a thread about a poorly 4 yo turned into a row about credit cards and then a row about pushchairs? I expect OP could do without having to justify herself on those issues.

user1471538283 · 06/06/2023 10:03

My DS would get really high temperatures and within often less than 24 hours and lots of Calpol he would be fine.

I think I would take him, dose him up and if he isn't well enough there come home.

Frenchtoadt · 06/06/2023 10:21

I would dose up and go .. you don’t have to do full days in the theme park and can come home early if he really starts to feel not well

I know! The credit card vs debit card thing makes no difference at all. If it's too close to cancel according to the Ts and Cs you have to agree to when booking, that's that. You can't just do a chargeback.

Extra credit card insurance excepted of course - but mine doesn't have any.

originalglazedsingle · 05/06/2023 22:32

that's crazy, how do you buy anything online?

With a debit card? Confused

whycantmenfindstuff · 06/06/2023 11:56

Blimey! Sods law

I would dose him up, use the pram: I reckon he will be ok. My kid can be feverish and sleepy one day and bouncing off walls the next

Either that or try and sell the tickets on Facebook?

I don't have a CC either. Gave up on credit years ago

Maybe if you'd said what you meant the first time rather than making a ridiculous statement... 🤷🏻‍♀️

I have reported the mean comment to MN, it's not right to pile on someone, thank you.

MAREMCKENNA · 07/06/2023 17:56

Just to update, we're here. He's still a bit up and down but no theme park until tomorrow. He's super happy and nearly exploded when he thought we were going camping and we turned up at the theme park hotel. Thanks everyone!
