Misogynistic bellends speaking down to women

Firstly, I couldn't care less here if I'm unreasonable but I invite you to come and have a moan with me.

DP and I share a car. Said car is in garage and I've heard the mechanic laughing and chatting with DP and was smiley enough with me when DP was there.

I've rang yesterday to ask could he do a quick text or report for me on the cars problems as I've a cover in place that will pay towards repairs.

He spoke to me like I was a fucking idiot and I can't even think now how he worded it, but it was just horrid.
Then he said to get DP to ring him and he'll sort it with him. I'm still furious now.

So, aibu to hope he pisses sand and maybe razors every time he speaks to a woman this way until he learns to fucking not?

Take your car elsewhere, I will not give my hard earned cash to misogynistic tossers.

I will. It's never happened to me before, he was like jekyll/Hyde with how he was when I was with DP.

100% this bloke has a dungeon his wife doesn't know about and accesses the dark Web. 🤣

Find a decent garage with mechanics that respect their (female ) customers.... leave a warning on Google reviews about the shity garage.

Lwrenagain · 05/06/2023 16:48

I love how logical mumsnet is, a shitty review etc is so much more rational, I'm just over here wishing he pees razors like I'm evil matilda if I put my mind to it enough. 😂

I feel your pain. I had a saleman mansplaining MDF to me last week, he was still banging on even after I told him I knew what sodding MDF was. What really pisses me off is that he wouldn't dream of having that conversation with Dh or any other man...

DampMatches · 05/06/2023 16:56

Reminds me of this…
Always half tempted to become a mechanic for this very reason.
Do change garage, there are some excellent mechanics who don’t talk down to women!

Ugh, I work in a Male dominated industry and I'm competent/good at my job. I had a date try to explain why my explanation on something technical was incorrect. He doesn't work in the same industry/role, but there was no reasoning with him. He was binned for the disrespect. If only you could leave bad reviews for dates! 🤣

Mansplaining is phenomenal, its just... leaves me in awe.
I either accept it and feel stupid and cross or say something and feel mean and harsh.

Few years ago I ordered a bath panel for a curved bath and the bloke who delivered it for me, (small buisness) made a point of saying 7 times in about 3 minutes, "and you DO know, it's for a curved bath?" So I said slowly, "you do know the bath I require this panel for is curved?", then I felt mean. Like, I was the dickhead even though he'd made his corner panel concerns very clear and that point and suspected me of being somewhat thick.

When we go to look at cars and DH repeatedly tells them - it's her car I don't drive 🙄

Lwrenagain · 05/06/2023 17:02

@DampMatches I love this so so much 😂😂❤

@TeaDrinkerAnonymous I've thought about this before, like local "help a sister out" private FB groups and those OLD in the same local areas can grass on any bellends 😂😂

I once had a date tell me he'd marry me if I lost weight on the first and only date.
I said, "I wouldn't marry you if I gained, so let's not worry" and he was so offended!

@Lwrenagain
I hear you. I had to deal with a total twat on Sat and today. Like you, wishing all sorts on him. Bloody men😡

Thepeopleversuswork · 05/06/2023 17:17

@DampMatches love this. I wish there was a topic I could use to pull the nuclear button on mansplainers. Sadly the things I’m knowledgeable about are all quite feminine.

Maybe it’s time to do an evening course in plumbing.

Infusionist · 05/06/2023 17:22

Totally. DH and I had a meeting with a financial adviser recently.

He nodded along to everything DH said, and answered sensibly. He spoke over me and told me not to worry a lot.

I work in fcking investment management.

DH didn’t notice this so thinks I’m over reacting by suggesting we change IFA.

Panicmode1 · 05/06/2023 17:22

It's infuriating...this happens in our house with anything building related...DH knows nothing, and I used to be a chartered surveyor. I never say anything unless I'm being spectacularly mansplained to. The reverse ferreting is amusing.

QueenOfThorns · 05/06/2023 17:26

I’m not using our local garage for my MOT anymore because when I went in to drop off my car, the man just grunted at me, held out his hand for my key, then walked off. DH usually takes it in and says they’ve always been perfectly pleasant and friendly to him.

I hope said twat forever sits at wonky tables in pubs and stubs toes on daily basis.

And just for fun, pisses sand also 😂

@Infusionist @Panicmode1 well maybe you two pretty little ladies shouldn't be having such careers and go home to darn socks and make bread from scratch daily then. Bloody intelligent career women. 🙄

Imagine being qualified, intelligent, successful and having a vagina.
The world has gone mad I tell you, mad.

Had this sort of thing from garages for years - have now found an amazing garage run by a woman.

She is bloody awesome, really good mechanic, experienced, honest, runs the place well, her male staff respect her and funnily enough speaks to everyone male or female the same 😊

Lwrenagain · 05/06/2023 17:41

I had a lovely mechanic but my mum bloody shagged him after she bumped into him and wetherspoons, (classy family) and she told me how great he was in the sack and I just couldn't look at him again.

Opposite here - great garage, referred to me by my female neighbour and I've then referred to 2 other female friends. I've made a big point of telling the garage I've done this as they have been transparent, clear and very sensible to deal - and not like normal garages that talk down to women. They have had a lot of local business from dealing sensibly with women

I love this.

I've never really been spoken to like shit before, been over quoted for things though, but nice respectful people should have success!

I've walked out of a garage before as the young salesmen were too busy making sexist jokes and couldn't be bothered to serve me, I waited 20mins. When they phoned to see if I was interested in upgrading my car I told them exactly why I went to another dealership. Idiots.

BanditsOnTheHorizon · 05/06/2023 18:19

I walked out of a showroom once when buying a car after the salesman kept looking at my dh when talking about the car. Even after my dh told him to talk to me as I was the one buying. I'm also a fucking fully qualified mechanic !

dickheed · 05/06/2023 18:26

One time my car wouldn't start and I had to get the equivalent of the AA out (I'm in another country). The mechanic from the rescue company got it started (it was more complex than just needing to be jump-started). He wouldn't explain what the problem was and kept telling me that was for the garage to sort out, so that pissed me off.
Then he said I should drive to my garage (about 5 km away from where the car broke down) and he would drive behind in case it stalled. Once we parked at the garage (it was the weekend) he started mansplaining me that I would need to phone the garage on Monday to explain what had happened otherwise they wouldn't know why the car was standing on the forecourt. I bit my tongue and didn't come out with "Nah, I thought I'd just leave it standing there for ages and not bother phoning and hope it magically appears back at my place again".
He must have explained it 5 times really slowly. I got pissed off with him in the end and said "They know me here. They know it's my car and they'll probably phone me the minute they get into work on Monday". So I chucked the keys in the key safe and that was that.
Dickhead mansplainer - at least the mechanics in the garage are lovely.

On Monday I wasn't in a hurry to wake up so I phoned at 8.30 am about the car. The garage opens at 7.30 am. The bloke said, "Oh yeah, we've fixed it already, you can come round and pick it up!"
