Cursed clothes

Sorrynotsorry22 · 04/06/2023 17:03

I was involved in a prang( daughter driving). Now the whole outfit including a lovely green cardigan, sits forlorn in my wardrobe because its cursed.
Same with new jeans, lovely clarkes shoes and a jolly t-shirt
Twisted my ankle in the outfit so it's all cursed.
White holiday trousers from 20 years ago , cursed !( don't ask)
There's more but AIBU?

Eh?

ISeeMisledPeople · 04/06/2023 17:05

Yes. Yabu.

Raquelos · 04/06/2023 17:06

Hahah yes YABU and also mildly insane. I find it bizarrely endearing though so you can probably get away with calling it quirky!!

Theunamedcat · 04/06/2023 17:08

We had cursed music was playing in the car when the clutch went was playing it while I was out walking thought of this is the song we were listening too when.....slipped off the kerb I know logically I was distracted its not the songs fault etc but I don't listen to it while moving anymore 😂

FatAgainItsLettuceTime · 04/06/2023 17:08

Completely ridiculous, your clothes had nothing to do with either incident.

monicagellerbing · 04/06/2023 17:09

I gave away the top I wore when I sat with my dad while he died, no way could I have worn it again without being reminded of that morning

DelphiniumBlue · 04/06/2023 17:15

Actually, I know what you mean, I had to throw out a really nice dress as I was wearing it when I had a very traumatic miscarriage - it wasn't damaged but I could never wear it again.
And conversely my lucky giving birth dress, worn for 3 births!
Also had to chuck the outfit I wore for my Dad's funeral, and the outfit I wore for a party when I was dumped by then boyfriend.

BrioNotBiro · 04/06/2023 17:38

I got told off in school once and I can still remember the dress I was wearing 50 odd years later.

It shows what a goody-goody I must have been to be so traumatised my it😂

InSpainTheRain · 04/06/2023 17:42

I think you are completely unreasonable, clothes are not cursed. If something gives you really bad memories (like a PP who said she gave away the top she worse when her Dad passed away) then fair enough. Or if the offending gardent somehow causes the accident (e.g. it's too long for you and you tripped over it). But a car accident, twisting your ankle or similar - unreasonable in my view.

I’ve just sent the shirt I wore to my dad’s funeral and the one I had on the last time I saw him (he died in the night unexpectedly) to the charity shop yesterday. I know exactly what you mean. I have a lucky bracelet though …

lysozyme · 04/06/2023 17:44

Why not give it to a charity shop instead of leaving it in your wardrobe to gather dust?

shakeitoffsis · 04/06/2023 17:44

Pathetic way to live really.

Daffodilmorning · 04/06/2023 17:45

I completely understand. I have a lucky dress that I happened to be wearing to my first scan. I wore it to every scan after that (with both babies) because obviously the dress made everything go well 🤷‍♀️.

thebear1 · 04/06/2023 17:47

It depends, if you have worn it before and nothing bad happened then its not cursed. First wearing, cursed so send to charity shop. This is my logic, but I'll openly admit I have lots of issues around clothing and also ridiculous rules.

mbosnz · 04/06/2023 17:48

White linen trousers. Won't tell you the stories to go with the previous two pair. Suffice to say that poo, red wine, and stinging nettles featured heavily.

I think I've broken the curse. On my current pair, the elastic has given out, and the linen is getting see through.

WarmSausageTea · 04/06/2023 17:51

It could be worse, she could be insulting people on the internet.

RagingWoke · 04/06/2023 17:51

I still have the dress I wore to my dads funeral. Can't wear it again but also can't part with it.

The outfit I wore in a bad car accident also never got worn again 'just in case'.

Deliberately wore clothes I didn't mind never wearing again when my cat was pts. Immediately changed before coming home to other cat because they were cursed.

Totally logical.

Equally I still have the clothes I wore when I gave birth and the PJ top my scbu baby would sit inside of- not a 'good' time as he was in scbu but I cherish the memory of cuddling the tiny baby.

Wishawisha · 04/06/2023 17:55

If you definitely won’t wear them again then why do you still have them?

I’d sell on Vinted or give to a charity shop. Unless the curse travels with them?!

SeaInelegans · 04/06/2023 17:57

If I didn’t rewear any outfit that I was wearing when a minor incident happened then I don’t think I would have any clothes left! That being said, I do have a dress that I haven’t worn since my grandmothers funeral over a year ago, despite prior to the funeral it was something I regularly wore for work.

MochiDonutt · 04/06/2023 18:01

I think it's time to let them go. If you believe the clothes are cursed why do you keep them around?

CaputDraconis · 04/06/2023 18:01

I have the dress I was wearing when my dad died. I don't fit in it any more but I can't part with it.

Likewise the dress I wore for his funeral. It fits me but I can't wear it nor can I see myself giving it away ☹️

IfYouDontLikeTheAnswerDontAskTheQuestion · 04/06/2023 18:01

Very strange

vicaragechristmas · 04/06/2023 18:02

YANBU I have cursed jewellery, my mum has cursed clothes which was wearing when she broke a bone badly once. It's irrational but I can absolutely sympathise!

Vitriolinsanity · 04/06/2023 18:19

In our family, we have a long tradition of taking our pets collars into an exam/driving test/interview for good luck.

laceydoily · 04/06/2023 18:28

Well, if they truly are cursed as you say, then they can still cause an accident from their location in your wardrobe- have you not seen any horror movies? You have to burn them, they will come back of course, unscathed, then you have to team up with a random stranger (who is also cursed by your clothes) to find an old wise woman who lives in the woods, who will give you the ancient secret of how to break the curse. The two of you should then have a race against the clock to fix it before the week is up.
