Fevers and flying

Hypothetical musings, lots of people seem to have been away this half term lucky things!!

If you got a fever/flu/covid symptoms before you went away I think lots of people would think twice about flying and infecting everyone. Travel insurance would most likely cover this with a drs note.

But what would you do if you got unwell once there? Most insurance won't pay for you to stay longer unless medically necessary. So if it's 'just' a fever would you fly home?

AIBU covid really has changed the way people look at things

When I've had flu or Covid I've not been well enough to do anything never mind fly so I'd stay at home.

A cold - I go.

I wouldnt miss a holiday for a fever. Not sure I'd even test for covid now tbh although I still have a few leftover tests that ds brought home from school

My covid involved a sore throat and loss of smell. I felt fine otherwise.

If I felt ropey but able enough to travel, I’d fly. I’m sure some people will claim that they’d never be so selfish and would happily be hundreds or thousands of pounds out of pocket before they’d so much as risk exposing others to possible infection, but I’m not one of those people.

The majority of people aren’t going to miss their holiday for something like a coke/flu/covid. Why would they? Confused

And I very much doubt anyone at all would fly home if they got ill.

Createausername1970 · 04/06/2023 15:56

As long as I felt well enough to get myself to the airport, then yes I would.

If I felt too unwell to sort my packing out or face the taxi journey there then no I wouldn't.

But the faff of finding accommodation and changing flights whilst staying in another country would probably stir me into a temporary reprieve long enough to get home to my own bed.

Wear a mask… I always wear a mask when flying because I don’t want to catch covid from passengers who don’t give a flying fuck about anyone but themselves!

Oliotya · 04/06/2023 16:08

I was very poorly last time we flew. Didn't even cross my mind not to go. There's no way we could afford to miss the holiday!

You realise you wear a mask to protect others, right? And that it won’t stop you getting ill?

Mariposista · 04/06/2023 16:14

Unless I had D&V or something totally incapacitating I would crack on and go.

Movinghouseatlast · 04/06/2023 16:17

I might wear an N95 mask on the plane as I really don't want to get ill while I'm away. There's a horrid bug going round- my friend was in bed for 4 days.
