JAMES NORTON - the most talented and NICEST young actor?

XelaM · 04/06/2023 01:04

I just met James Norton outside the Harold Pinter Theatre where he was signing autographs and talking to fans after his show. I could not believe how incredibly nice and talkative he was with everyone. He was coming up to everyone and spending ages having a chat with every fan. Really being incredibly nice and chatty despite it being nearly midnight and him having had to go through 4 hours of the gruelling performance in A Little Life. I have never seen any "big" celebrity be this nice to fans.

Aside from that, how unbelievably talented is this man?! From Gantchester, McMafia, Happy Valley and his stage performance- al completely different characters but absolutely brilliantly played. And of course he's beautiful 😍 (and isn't he a Cambridge graduate?).

I'm in love 😻 (in a crazy stalkerish way of course 😂)

I have always thought he was gay.
Beyond shocked he isn't.

WandaWonder · 05/06/2023 01:11

Since seeing happy valley I don't want to meet him for a very long time

That is meant as a compliment to him because he was brilliant in it but I know he is not really like that

All the characters he plays are so completely different but all so believable and brilliantly acted.

I agree he's chilling as Tommy Lee Royce, but then he played:

  • the very well-educated and polished Alex in McMafia;
  • the lovely heartbroken (very handsome 😍) priest in Grantchester;
  • the extremely troubled vulnerable (asexual?) Jude in A Little Life; and many others.

I haven't seen all his films (yet 😜) but from the ones I have seen there has only been one role I didn't like him in - that of Stephen Ward in "The Trials of Christine Keeler." But that's probably to do with the screenplay that made him constantly call everyone "little baby" which just got on my nerves. Everything else I've seen him in, he was superb.

In real life, isn't he from quite a posh boarding school/Oxbridge background? I think I read he studied theology at Cambridge. So he's very far removed from the Tommy Lee Royce persona, which makes his performance even more amazing.

Oh he is the most amazing actor.

and so very, very hot.

would be an an amazing Bond, cos he is so sexy and has such a fabulous body and wonderful voice.

and I am old enough to be his mother…

TrashyPanda · 05/06/2023 08:59

Basically, he is sex on a stick.

SorryForTheRant · 05/06/2023 09:23

I actually think he was too good in Happy Valley, to the point I struggle to watch things with him in now because he makes my skin crawl, that's a testament to his acting though (I can't watch Motherland for the same reason as I just see Carmichael from Line of Duty and get the rage).

He does seem lovely though, I once saw him on a train in the very early Grantchester days and stared at him for ages because I knew I recognised him, but I thought I knew him, as in from work or something 😂 he was very nice about it!

Hah I totally see what you mean. I have that with some actors. I can't picture them in another role (like Arian Moayed as Stewy in Succession- I can't accept him in another role because he was so good). Funny about recognising JN on the train. He actually reminds me of my ex-husband (particularly in his Tommy Lee Royce persona bar being a murderous rapist 😬he has a similar look and mannerisms).

I read that too. Also I found him quite wooden in McMafia. Buuuut as this is a rave thread I will redeem myself by saying he is otherwise a fantastic actor and that he is interacting with all the fans is really nice to hear.

Have to say I really didn't like McMafia. Just couldn't take to it.

SunnyEgg · 05/06/2023 11:57

I really couldn’t take to him after Happy Valley but then I watched a quiet film called Mr Jones on the famine in Ukraine in 30s and true story of journalist

He was more watchable

JesusMaryAndJosephAndTheWeeDon · 05/06/2023 12:11

YABU to have only just noticed what a sweetheart he is!

He is also a really good advocate for type 1 diabetes which he has.

He is, I sent links to his video demonstrating a CGM to my elderly mum when her doctor wanted her to get one and she was worried about it.

😱 I LOVED McMafia!! Maybe it's because I'm Russian and through work I have met many of those characters depicted in the series in real life. It was a very accurate portrayal of those levels of Russian society (rich Russians in London, their kids and the authorities in Russia as well as the Israelis). Also, brilliant acting from the whole cast. The actors playing his parents are very famous Russian actors.

I know someone who dated a friend of his. He is apparently a really nice guy.

LifeIsPainHighness · 05/06/2023 18:02

I love him he was terrifying but also quite sexy as TLR, I’ve seen him as a 1800’s Lord in Death Comes to Pemberley and pleased to hear he’s so versatile!

Check him out in War and Peace too 😍

MagpieCastle · 05/06/2023 20:26

A few years ago, we went to see him doing a reading at a theatre. During the show, a member of the audience suddenly became unwell. He immediately stopped the performance, jumping down to check that the person was ok (they were), arranged assistance and stayed to reassure them. The spontaneous and kind reaction to want to help a fellow human being was very genuine and made me like him even more. He’s a good egg:-)

Jesus Christ OP, go and take a cold shower.

Poor JN, having half of MN lusting over him.

In fairness (not to diminish JN's hotness in any way of course) there are many good-looking actors. My post was about how lovely he was to people on the street when he must have been exhausted and wanted to go home. He would have been forgiven to sneak out of the theatre or give a quick wave and leave. But he not only stayed and signed autographs for every single person, but had lengthy chats with everyone who was there. I am still genuinely shocked by how nice he was to complete strangers at midnight after he's been on stage the whole time and when he's such a big star. He even apologised for coming out so late because people must have had to wait long (around 30-40mins).

@MagpieCastle awww I can totally picture that. He's just lovely.

Which is very rare in the world of completely self-absorbed "zelebrities".

I'm sure he's used to it. It happens quite frequently..... Over on TV we even had a badge to show our appreciation 😁

XelaM · 06/06/2023 22:15

I actually forgot to mention that Luke Thompson who plays Willem in the play and is in Bridgerton was also extremely nice and chatty to the people outside the theatre.
