Food poisoning dd

My daughter has sharp stomach ache Tuesday and started with loose stools weds. Tonight even looser like watery and what looked to be specks of blood. I am currently in a state of panic. She seems fine in herself it hey when she has to go she comes across feeling sick and stomach cramps and has to go.

a week ago today we had Indian take out she she had chicken strips as she doesn’t like Indian food. So Saturday until the Tuesday is us possible? She’s not been sick just cramps and poops. She was feverish weds and a temp and gave her medicine and she’s been fine since I’m wondering if it’s flushing out now being watery just worried about specs or blood if it’s even blood you have to proper look to see. My friend is an advance nice and she said likely from her body straining and being inflamed and food poisoning can cause bloody diarrhea.

anyone had this and any tips to keep her hydrated or get rid of it faster? I’m thinking of ringing 111 tomorrow about it. I rang doctors weds and they said to monitor her and it should clear up it’s self within a week. I panic a lot 😓

Keep her hydrated and on plain foods if she wants to eat.

If you're really worried ring 111 tomorrow but I'm sure it'll pass.

Doesn't sound like food poisoning tbh.

I'd just make sure she drinks plenty. Eats plain food.

fancreek · 04/06/2023 00:26

What makes you think it's food poisoning rather than just a bug?

Anxiousmummy1187 · 04/06/2023 09:45

None of us have had it and there’s four of us in the house and she’s not been anywhere but here. And she’s eaten the same as us other than the Saturday night. When she had chicken

Really? My friends an advance nurse and she’s the one who said it’s likely to be food posioning for it to be going on this long she said can be a week or more.

Sounds like campylobacter I had it from chicken the strips were probably cooked from frozen and not done enough that’s what happened to me. Put me off takeaways for a long time. Mine lasted about 2 weeks.

Write2023 · 04/06/2023 09:51

I had bloody diarrhea too.

TappingTed · 04/06/2023 09:53

Campylobacter is 2-5 days so fits in with the window. Might be worth getting in touch with public health authorities to see how to report this.

Oblomov23 · 04/06/2023 10:00

I'm not sure it sounds like campylobacter. But even if it is there is not much that can be done over the next few days other than keeping her hydrated and a plain diet.

wwyd2021medicine · 04/06/2023 10:55

V similar symptoms - cramps, diarrhoea with a bit of blood on one occasion, nausea - to my DD 20 who has just had stool sample positive for campylobacter. One website said incubation period 1-11 days.
DD also had a temperature- 39 one day. Poor girl in the middle of exams and felt really rough

wwyd2021medicine · 04/06/2023 10:56

And started last Saturday and still a bit of diarrhoea yesterday but feeling better in herself

Yerroblemom1923 · 04/06/2023 10:58

How old is she? Keep her hydrated and give her dioralyte.

Anxiousmummy1187 · 04/06/2023 11:05

She’s 8 x

When I had food poisoning the Dr told me it's usually what you are 2 to 3 days before because the bacteria build up takes time, so yes it's possible.

Ate not are

I was also going to say sounds like campylobacter. I got it from a dodgy kebab van. It went on for about 10 days, longer than a normal viral infection. You should really take a sample to docs, when I did they sent me a questionnaire from the council to try and pinpoint where I got it from - if it is the restaurant you would be doing public duty!x

same here, take away chicken nuggets. No vomiting, just a couple of weeks of loose stools that became bloody (campylobacter was confirmed with stool tests).

Anxiousmummy1187 · 04/06/2023 11:58

Thanks I’m ringing doctor I. Morning 111 said to ring gp tomorrow so will and will see if they want stool sample.
