...to be extremely angered by SS & Police?

Children 'living' in severe neglect - filthy, uninhabitable home (full of flies and fleas), no food in dirty fridge, nowhere to bathe, brush teeth etc. Danger hazards throughout house and parents both on weed and cocaine.

DCs removed by police I'm guessing on an EPO, but parents now "let off", to be told the DCs will be returned soon and no police charges?!

If you seen the home you would understand my frustration here but surely SS cannot just dismiss this? If so, I have lost all faith in the system ConfusedHmmSad

That's shocking and shows how underfunded social care is! So sad for the children

JustGeorgie · 03/06/2023 20:42

What 'police charge' were you hoping for though?

It's SS job to sort

NancyJoan · 03/06/2023 20:42

No police charges isn’t the same as no social services involvement.

I wasn't "hoping" for a charge, I'm just in shock that they were not charged; the Police incident form stated 'neglect X2'

They are telling people that SS have said kids can come back as soon as home cleaned but apparently it's only that Police have "ticked the wrong box" Hmm that they'd be allowed home now!?

‘They’ are telling people? You mean the neglectful parents whose children have been removed?
Do you believe them? I wouldn’t.
Also, even if they’re returned after certain criteria have been met it doesn’t mean that ss have left them to it.

EggInANest · 03/06/2023 20:49

Is this from the ‘parents’?

What they are telling people might not be what is happening.

Yeah, this is what my sis has said, she doesn't believe them but they do seem extremely convincing and are going about their days happy go lucky ShockHmm

Their main concern was to ask SS if they'll still receive the tax credits & CB for the DCs BlushShock

Uncreativename · 03/06/2023 20:52

It’s not up to the police to charge.

all they can do is remove children under emergency powers, and present the case to CPS.

it’s frustrating for police as well, but that’s where their power ends and SS/cps take over.

Ah, see I was thinking this, so could they be out pending investigation then, whilst police wait for the CPS to decide whether to take it on or not?

I would hold your extreme anger in reserve until you see what actually happens.

And how will you see any detail anyway? Of SS involvement or charges brought?

This 100%

NatureNurture85 · 03/06/2023 20:58

There is no space for children through social services. It’s awful. I know now they look to private landlords paying upwards of £1000 a week to them for property to place kids and carers. It’s a boiling pot about to explode with no money.

Police remove children using their police powers of protection - not an epo. This is a power police have - they don't have an order and don't go to court.

When children are removed subject to police powers of protection, it is then for the LA (social services) to decide on next steps, which could include going to court to seek an order for continued removal, seeking parents' agreement for ongoing removal (under a voluntary section 20 agreement) or returning the children (usually with a high level of ongoing monitoring).

Police powers of protection only last 72 hours.

It is hugely traumatic for children to be removed from their family, especially in an unplanned way by police. If the LA feels confident the parents can be supported for the children to safely return, that is hugely beneficial for the children.

For families on the breadline this is a genuine concern - if the children are returning imminently the parents absolutely need to know their financial situation to ensure the children are provided for.

It's frankly a privileged comment to make out that it is unreasonable for parents to ask about/ to imply the parents only care about the children because of the benefits they receive.

It's not always the best option to remove children permanently, even if the circumstances are bad.

As long as there's no abuse, sometimes it's best to support parents to improve their habits/parenting and then return the children.

3BSHKATS · 03/06/2023 21:07

If you saw the state and the conditions of some foster homes, you might reconsider your position on whether the parents situation was that bad.

Do you know these people? are you related to them?

BonnieBobbin · 03/06/2023 21:12

So the DCs have been removed and the parents are saying 'everything is fine and they'll be home soon' ? There's no way for them to know that yet.
It is unusual for charges to be brought. The police being involved when the DCs were taken out of the home doesn't mean that the parents will be charged.

KeysUnlocked · 03/06/2023 21:15

Let's just say they have been 'toileting' in buckets and pans Confused
