Was I BU? Angry stranger…

I don’t know why I’m doing this lol because I’m probably going to be bashed and battered but here we go lol.

Was in a coffee shop, a lady with an empty pushchair was taking up half the aisle in the queue where all the sandwiches were - she was at the end and empty push chair. My boyfriend and I were clearly looking for food, I moved around her pushchair and looked but boyf couldn’t because he had our son in a pushchair behind it - she definitely noticed us. She moved further along to the till to order and pay but left said empty pushchair where is was so no one could move forward. I moved the pushchair up the queue so my Boyf could get a sandwich. This woman went mental - turned round and snapped ‘I was gonna move it’ to which I said ok, but you didn’t so I just pushed it forward so we could look at food (she was busy ordering/talking by this point so I didn’t see the point in interrupting). She then told me I was very rude and she was very angry - he husband joined her and to told me I was very rude and I should have asked.

I stuck up for myself and in all honesty by the end he looked pretty embarrassed when he realised what had actually happened.

Was I being rude and unreasonable moving the empty pushchair a little? I feel like actually she was pretty rude?

meant she was at the end of the queue and empty pushchair was static in the middle.

She sounds unhinged!

Hesma · 03/06/2023 17:04

She sounds a bit 🦇💩, I’d have done the same as you tbh.

Redshoeblueshoe · 03/06/2023 17:06

No you were not being rude, she on the other hand - was

HappyMe6 · 03/06/2023 17:07

I’d have done exactly the same as you, the pushchair empty was blocking where you wanted to be to choose the sandwiches

StemStem · 03/06/2023 17:31

She sounds like one of those unhinged women you see on videos online in coffee shops having meltdowns when they don’t get their own way.

Glad you stood up for yourself. Hopefully if more people stand up she will get the message that the world isn’t going to bend over backwards for her.

Topseyt123 · 03/06/2023 17:37

I'm pretty sure I'd have moved an empty pushchair too so that I could view the food. She should have taken it with her or at least put it somewhere a little more out of the way.

She was ridiculous.

Dacadactyl · 03/06/2023 17:39

You weren't being unreasonable. She sounds like a fruitcake. Don't give it a 2nd thought.

UnctuousUnicorns · 03/06/2023 17:41

Some people are just batshit and really do need to take a chill pill. I'd have just mumbled "Oh, sorry," and grabbed it out of the way. Daft cah.

mainsfed · 03/06/2023 18:14

YANBU, she was a twat and I hope she reads this.

alwaysmovingforwards · 03/06/2023 18:25

I would have just asked her "do you mind if I squeeze in here to get a sandwich please".

Throwncrumbs · 03/06/2023 18:29

Why did she have an empty pushchair? Really odd

Justmuddlingalong · 03/06/2023 18:30

She sounds a daftie.
You were totally reasonable and should forget about her overreaction to a perfectly normal thing to do.

Goldbar · 03/06/2023 18:36

YANBU. If that was my pushchair, I would have rushed to move it with an apology as soon as I realised it was in your way.

towriteyoumustlive · 03/06/2023 18:38

She sounds mental! You were definitely in the right!

I hate it in supermarkets when someone stands with their trolley beside them taking up soooo much shelf space so no one else can see or get to the shelf! Even worse in a smaller cafe!

Maybe she'd dropped her child at nursery or childminders?

I wouldn't have moved it, personally. I'd have waited and asked.

Justmuddlingalong · 03/06/2023 18:43

She sounds like the sort who would have freaked out whatever OP had done.
OP moves it herself=freak out.
OP asks gobby to move it=freak out.

AspiringChatBot · 03/06/2023 18:44

In your place, I probably would have asked her to move it. In her place, I certainly wouldn't have had a fit. Pushchair with a baby in it, yes - best not to touch it. Empty pushchair, assuming you just moved it several feet and nothing was damaged, not a big deal.

She sounds like one of those unhinged women you see on videos online in coffee shops having meltdowns when they don’t get their own way. Maybe step away from Reddit for a bit.

Yep. Bucket loads of this!

I am inclined to agree with this to be honest. I honestly think she was just trying to be difficult.

@AspiringChatBot @GoodChat Yes I was worried about that because I hadn’t asked first. However, in all honesty I really would not have minded at all if someone had moved my empty pushchair that was clearly in their way - unless I was in the mood to be a dick ofc.

I wouldn’t have dreamed of moving it if there was a child in it.

Seems pretty resounding that I was NBU.

Thanks everyone, I won’t worry about it.

Presumably her husband had their child with him. I wouldn't touch someone else's things I'd just wait as she was obviously paying and would have come back for it.

continentallentil · 03/06/2023 19:09

No, she is, as you say, an angry. We’ve all been there but it’s best to call it out.

LadyJ2023 · 03/06/2023 19:10

If someone moved mine I wouldn't go crazy but I wouldn't be happy at all either because i keep mine as free from cocid as possible and i dont know you. It would just require please can I get in to look at the sandwiches. On the other hand I would never leave mine alone

I don't know that taking it into a busy cafe is likely to keep it 'covid free'...
