Is this too much lunch for a diet?

Trying to shift a couple of stone.
I eat v healthily, but probably too much, I don’t work out normally, but have started again.
I’m a person who has to cut back a lot and not eat much/work out daily to stay slim.
In the past when I was v slim, I went to the gym and had less carbs & smaller portions. I’m trying fasting also.
I’ve had no breakfast, just got in from school run, morning work and walking the dog.
Is this too much?
There’s two tins of tuna and two crackers, the rest is just salad? Assuming that’s okay?
Dinner is broccoli, cauliflower, carrots & chicken, piece of fruit afterwards.
I’m attempting to cut right back on carbs, my portions seem big though 😂but I’m hungry
Desperate to lose weight

for breakfast I have 15 grams porridge oats with water and 80g blueberries then on weekends I have peanut butter on toast with marmite though last weekend had scrambled eggs and mushrooms on toast with butter but usually cook with Fry Light.

Good filling lunch/meal options are the WW or M&S count on us Coconut chicken bowls which come in at 240 cals.

I joined WW and loads of options for meals including lasagnes and other nice meals.

I don't know why people are acting like its disordered eating to not eat 1 tin of tuna or more.
The john west tins are 145g (standard size across brands) but their 'single serve' can is 60g so even they think a typical tin is more than 1 portion.

Two tins of tuna can feed four people if they are having it on a sandwich each and it also has 1tbsp mayonnaise mixed in per can. And if they are the no drain tins otherwise you get half a tin of water/oil.

And the if is doing a lot of work in that sentence. I would also eat some of it as I'm making the sandwiches and give some to the dog.

1 big tin is fine. 2 is pretty unnecessary but if it keeps you full and you don't snack then 2 is also fine.

I'd say move it to the weight loss thread - might be less traffic but so many of the responses here are out of line and very unhelpful to people dealing with EDs

Did you mean 15g porridge? That seems a tiny amount to me!

Mumsnet is 100% the wrong place to ask for advice about portions or calories. For every reasonable response, you will get a competitive undereater telling you it’s outrageous to even breath near a carbohydrate and they survive on one tomato and shredded celery stick a day.

Take some of the replies with a pinch of salt, and I’d suggest even if you don’t count calories that you check the calories in a portion of certain foods. One large spoonful of mayo can be frighteningly calorific. Myfitnesspal or similar can help.

The tuna is good protein but 2 tins for one person is far too much. Change to 1 or less. Also ditch the mayo as a tablespoon has 50 calories. If you aren’t counting calories you are likely eating more than you realise and won’t be in a deficit to lose. Saying you are having the mayo because your not having bread is pointless if you are just swapping it for something with the same amount of calories anyway. There are no bad foods and cutting it out entirely will just make you want it more. Your total lunch is roughly 400 calories.

it is NOT disordered eating to only eat the one tin of tuna

those eating two to themselves must be made of money also!

A slice of bread has more than 50 cals and personally doesn't fill me up as much as salad with mayo!

If they're the tiny tins of tuna, two is fine. Plus protein is satiating. If you're eating low carb, mayonnaise is more than fine. However, I would ditch the crackers.

The most beneficial thing would be to work out your TDE and the calorie deficit. Then track everything, even the milk in your tea and coffee.

BTW OP there's nothing wrong with a 600 calorie salad if you're only eating 2 meals a day!

If that tuna salad with may fills you up and makes you happy just eat it. I would still recommend counting though because you may get carried away on hungry days with fillings and mayo

There is just over 100 cals in my large dollop of weighed and measured hellmans real mayo. It makes salads super yummy and I will then eat a large bowlful and feel very full. I'd rather that than snack.

It's the general tone of some of the posts rather than the amount of tuna that my posts about disordered advice were about. The disordered bit is the idea that eating the absolute minimum number of calories is the most important thing, regardless of nutrition (e.g. suggesting "light" versions of products), which besides not being as nutritious will just make OP more hungry and less likely to stick to her plans. A decent serving of protein, healthy fat like olive oil and some fibre and carbs is less likely to make you want a load of biscuits later than cutting it down to the bare minimum and having low-fat substitutes (which often have sugar instead of fat).

I recommend calorie counting which although boring does let you see which items you are eating that are calorie dense and nutritionally light. Lots of good apps for this. It also lets you see if you are eating too much of one food group and not enough of another. Also helps you see how many added calories there are in oils used for dressing and cooking and sauces / condiments that you add.

I'd also recommend weighing things out to see what a portion size actually is. For example a person having a big bowl of pasta may think they are having one portion, but it could be 4 or 5 in reality. It's easy to misjudge portions. I'd swop the mayo for a "lighter" (low fat) version as has less calories and mix it with plenty of natural yogurt and have slightly less on your plate. Tuna in spring water is less calories than tuna in oil and tastes fine. Herbs, spices and black pepper are good to add flavour, but go very easy on the salt and don't add any extra if there is some added already as there usually is with tinned items. Brown rice, pasta, crackers, wholemeal bread rather than things made with refined white flour.

2 tins of tuna is a to! If it's in water/brine not too bad, just make sure there's no oil. The may spoils the whole thing - I know you say it's your treat as no bread, but what's with the cracker? surely that's your bread substitute?

The problem with low fat anything is that sugar or sweeteners are added for flavour. OP is better off with regular mayo.

It looks fine to me OP but the competitive undereaters will be along in a minute to tell you that crackers are an indulgent treat and they only have a teaspoon of mayo at Christmas.
