Is this too much lunch for a diet?

Trying to shift a couple of stone.
I eat v healthily, but probably too much, I don’t work out normally, but have started again.
I’m a person who has to cut back a lot and not eat much/work out daily to stay slim.
In the past when I was v slim, I went to the gym and had less carbs & smaller portions. I’m trying fasting also.
I’ve had no breakfast, just got in from school run, morning work and walking the dog.
Is this too much?
There’s two tins of tuna and two crackers, the rest is just salad? Assuming that’s okay?
Dinner is broccoli, cauliflower, carrots & chicken, piece of fruit afterwards.
I’m attempting to cut right back on carbs, my portions seem big though 😂but I’m hungry
Desperate to lose weight

Also, what could I add to salads to make them more interesting? going to be having a lot of them!

Can’t have tuna everyday (although I love it)

I'd start with a more interesting salad, adding some high flavour bits like coriander, pommegrannet seeds, sun dried tomatoes (oil blotted off) olives, capers, then maybe some lime juice and chilli flakes or black pepper. One tin of tuna (I'd have beans instead as im vegan) then a nice chunk of whole grain bread or a jacket sweet potato. I've never found cutting carbs helpful (only the white ones).

Rosscameasdoody · 31/05/2023 15:19

I lost a couple of stone on a low GI diet. Carbs are not all bad and low GI diets are based on whole foods, good carbs, rather than refined - ‘bad’ carbs. The energy they give is slow release so you’ll find you feel fuller for longer. I think the meal you’ve posted looks fine, but if you took off the big dollop of mayo and the cracker, and substituted them with a spoonful of Greek yogurt and a couple of slices of wholemeal bread with a light spread, you’d have something that will keep you feeling full until your evening meal. All that salad doesn’t give much substance.

Best thing to do is download my fitness pal and enter everything you eat into it, stick to 1500 cals a day. Weigh out and measure EVERYTHING. Butter, mayo, dressing, milk for brews, everything. Put it in the app. It’s really effective for tracking how much you are eating and helps you make smart food choices. I input the food into this before I prepare a meal with the ingredients to see how much the total calories will be before I eat it.

This is what I do. 1400 cals a day. Very slow loss but a loss.

Etten · 31/05/2023 15:22

How many calories does it add up to and what is your daily calorie intake. As long as your calorie intake is less than the calories you burn, you will lose weight over time. It has to be sustainable though so a diet menu you can tolerate long term, and which is nutritious. The occasional treat is okay as long as you adjust your calorie intake the day before or after to balance it out. Good luck.

Itisyourturntowashthebath · 31/05/2023 15:23

Seems fine. Like a PP I'd swap one of the tins of tuna for some beans or chickpeas, because that is what I like.
I'd stick with the full fat mayo and avoid the ultra processed light, very light and unbelievably light options. Or as the tuna is in olive oil I might just throw vinegar and herbs on the salad.
Presumably you vary the salads over the course of the week.

Did you mean 15g porridge? That seems a tiny amount to me!

I was thinking that I have 40g

nosykids · 31/05/2023 15:33

Do not ask for dietary advice on mumsnet - it is always utterly batshit (and disturbing). Most of the 'I'd be huge if I ate like that' brigade have seriously fucked up their metabolisms through years of starvation dieting - don't listen to them!

Well not necessarily
I'd literally never dieted in my life until I hit 50.

Stravaig · 31/05/2023 15:12

Ok, I just looked up tins of tuna (I can't stand the stuff).

Supermarket own brand, 145g tin, calories listed for a ½ can serving: in water or brine 55 kcal, in oil 81 kcal.

Apparently 2 cans does 'feed a family of four', vindication for a pp!

That doesn't help the OP until we know weight of cans and other ingredients.

The OP has said they are the small tins of tuna RTFT

SiobhanSharpe · 31/05/2023 15:40

The OP says more than once the tins are very small.
And am agog at some of the utterly batshit replies on here.
The only thing i would say is that Hellmans Light mayo is OK. Ish. And about half the calories of the normal one. Or you could just have half the amount of the good stuff.

Stravaig · 31/05/2023 15:45

boscabosco · 31/05/2023 15:36

The OP has said they are the small tins of tuna RTFT

'Small' means absolutely fuck all.

The actual weight will be marked on the can, and the calories per 100g and per suggested serving will be on the nutrition label. That is the information needed to engage with this in a precise, informed and constructive way.

In the real world. This ofc is Mumsnet 🤷‍♀️🤯

UnshakenNeedsStirring · 31/05/2023 15:45

I made a red and white cabbage salad, chop it really finely , add chickpeas, cucumber tomatoes. My dressing is a lemon tahini dressing with yoghurt. I top it with herbs, seeds, sesame and pumpkin and some fresh pomegranate.

"I know so many people who have struggled with eating disorders who would be seriously triggered by this sort of thing. If you want to compete to starve yourselves"

Then they should scroll past. Simple @Thepeopleversuswork

Whats hilarious? People saying have one tin of tuna? Oh, wait...

@shakeitoffsis

whats so hilarious??
you are saying one tin of tuna just like everyone else

I've already said this once but it's not about me.

It's about an environment where disordered eating is normalised.

It's really unhealthy and I will continue to call it out.

Artycrafts · 31/05/2023 15:53

A tablespoon of mayo is about 90 calories. Given that the rest if the plate is low calorie, I don't see the problem. Keep it up OP. I like those round crackers, such as the sea salt ones. With a bit of butter on them, they come out at about 57 cals each. Nice with a tuna nicsoisse..throw in a sliced boiled egg

EnglishMuffins · 31/05/2023 15:54

Looks fine to me. I’m guessing even with the Mayo, the total cals is less than 400. I personally wouldn’t have 2 tins of tuna , just one. But it’s a good source of protein and should keep you fuller for longer. The salad Etc will be next to nothing in calories. Go for a low calorie salad dressing instead of Mayo. I’d also jazz up the salad with some other things but generally this isn’t a “bad” meal.

LuckySantangelo35 · 31/05/2023 15:55

megletthesecond · 31/05/2023 15:10

It's not very nutritious. Add in some rainbow coloured food.

I had strawberries and cream cheese on toast for lunch.

@Thepeopleversuswork

having one tin of tuna rather than two is hardly starving yourself!

Somethingneedstochange78 · 31/05/2023 15:58

Two tins of tuna is a bit much at once. I mix tuna with plain Greek yoghurt. It’s healthier less fattening and it actually tastes ok.

Hatehooveringsomuch · 31/05/2023 12:58

Oh and realise the mayo isn’t great 🙈😅but I need it for flavour and if I’m cutting out bread (biggest vice) then my treat is mayo

Try fat free vinaigrette instead of mayo, keeps it nice and moist (sorry!) and some taste but without the calories

It's not the one or two tins of tuna it's the general tone and the mindset of people falling over themselves to let it be known how little they eat.

Oh and the poster saying "no wonder you're overweight" to the OP.
