Is this too much lunch for a diet?

Trying to shift a couple of stone.
I eat v healthily, but probably too much, I don’t work out normally, but have started again.
I’m a person who has to cut back a lot and not eat much/work out daily to stay slim.
In the past when I was v slim, I went to the gym and had less carbs & smaller portions. I’m trying fasting also.
I’ve had no breakfast, just got in from school run, morning work and walking the dog.
Is this too much?
There’s two tins of tuna and two crackers, the rest is just salad? Assuming that’s okay?
Dinner is broccoli, cauliflower, carrots & chicken, piece of fruit afterwards.
I’m attempting to cut right back on carbs, my portions seem big though 😂but I’m hungry
Desperate to lose weight

Is that mayo/salad cream on top? That will add some hefty calories (but will be delicious no doubt).

Hatehooveringsomuch · 31/05/2023 12:58

Oh and realise the mayo isn’t great 🙈😅but I need it for flavour and if I’m cutting out bread (biggest vice) then my treat is mayo

Hatehooveringsomuch · 31/05/2023 12:58

@mynameiscalypso Yes…I know 😬Would it be a huge amount? (I don’t count calories)
Can’t do salad without mayo

Two tins of tuna is over the top for one person for lunch. Also looks like a massive pile of mayo.

What is more important is how your calories and macro nutrients balance out over the week, but if this is what your version of a 'light and healthy' lunch is then it probably isn't helping you to lose weight.

Why do you think bread is worse than mayo?

greennotepad · 31/05/2023 13:00

2 tins of tuna seems like a lot on paper- but in the pic it doesn't look much. Are they full sized ones or the little tins?

It looks fine to me OP but the competitive undereaters will be along in a minute to tell you that crackers are an indulgent treat and they only have a teaspoon of mayo at Christmas.

thelinkisdead · 31/05/2023 13:00

That looks fine to me, but maybe just one tin of tuna? You could add some crumbled feta (a little goes a looong way), capers, lemon & a drizzle of oil instead of or as well as the mayo and maybe cut down the amount of mayo? That would be less calories without compromising on protein / how filling it is!

InsomniacVampire · 31/05/2023 13:00

Nothing is too much really dependign on the rest of the day and your exercise.

Hatehooveringsomuch · 31/05/2023 13:01

Also, what could I add to salads to make them more interesting? going to be having a lot of them!

Can’t have tuna everyday (although I love it)

RollingOnTheRiver · 31/05/2023 13:01

I think two tins of tuna is excessive tbh. That’s 220-265 calories in the tuna, is it in water? 70 ish in the crackers. What sort of Mayo is that & have you measured/weighed it? There’s 40 cals in a tablespoon of light Mayo.
The actual salad bit is fine.

I can't really tell how big the plate is for scale but that's probably 150-200 calories of mayo (1 tbsp = 90 odd calories). It's fine but probably the most calorific part of the dish. I don't think two cans of tuna is excessive though - my 4 year old eats 1!

BonnieGlasses · 31/05/2023 13:02

I'd have had one tin of tuna and less mayo.

😂 like me. Although I’m not a competitive underwater, just someone who has lost a fair bit of weight and is now 9 st.

kokotheguerilla · 31/05/2023 13:02

Mumsnet is 100% the wrong place to ask for advice about portions or calories. For every reasonable response, you will get a competitive undereater telling you it’s outrageous to even breath near a carbohydrate and they survive on one tomato and shredded celery stick a day.

Take some of the replies with a pinch of salt, and I’d suggest even if you don’t count calories that you check the calories in a portion of certain foods. One large spoonful of mayo can be frighteningly calorific. Myfitnesspal or similar can help.

greennotepad · 31/05/2023 13:03

Two tins of tuna feeding a family of four 😂

Also I must have missed where the OP said she was overweight?

Chickychoccyegg · 31/05/2023 13:03

Looks like a lovely filling and healthy lunch, I'd probably only have one tin of tuna if they're normal full size ones, I don't think it looks like a particularly big portion of mayo, maybe about a tablespoon?
Keeping track of calories is quite easy and can he helpful, theres lots of free apps.

Pinkflipflop85 · 31/05/2023 13:03

Mayo is not your friend! I'm addicted to the stuff but really need to cut it out - 100+ calories in a tablespoon.

Juiceboxxy · 31/05/2023 13:03

Mate don't ask on here, people seem to think a lettuce leaf with a pinch of tuna is gluttony.

Tomatoes, mozarella & basil, lemon juice, black pepper & a drizzle of oil

Tomatoes, grated cheddar, jalapeños

Feta, olives, capers, lemon & oil

Mackerel

Anchovies, egg & new potatoes

gelatogina · 31/05/2023 13:04

You really need to be measuring and weighing everything so you know how many calories you are consuming. in time you’ll be able to estimate by eye, but right now you’ve no idea and a dollop of Mayo can be very calorific.

This. I add some cider vinegar and plenty of salt and it's yummy. I love mayo but have to limit it.

Kendaland · 31/05/2023 13:05

Some of these responses are bonkers! That looks like a perfectly normal and healthy lunch to me OP, of course context matters and what else you’re having
