Hotel breakfast

Firstly I know this is pretty minor!

I decided to treat my DD7 to a night away by the seaside in a hotel for half term. I’m on a low income so had to save up for it but really wanted to do something special as we can’t afford a proper holiday this year.

I chose the hotel carefully based on the facilities and menu etc. and decided to pay extra for breakfast after checking the menu online. DD won’t eat a cooked breakfast but they listed a selection of pastries and fresh fruit salad among the options which she will eat as well as cereal. I checked the breakfast options again with the receptionist when we checked in and she showed me the same menu.

We went down to breakfast just now and were told they didn’t have any pastries. So I asked if we could have a fresh fruit salad and they pointed at a bowl of tinned fruit cocktail. I asked if they had fresh fruit as per the menu and they looked really put out and said they would check if the kitchen could do that, then came back ten minutes later saying they couldn’t. (I was perfectly polite by the way)

AIBU to be a bit annoyed? Clearly fresh fruit is not something they ever usually have so I think it’s misleading to put it on the menu. I wouldn’t have bothered opting for the hotel breakfast if I’d known I’d be paying £15 for a bowl of Rice Krispies.

£7.50 each. if you went out to Pret, that's two croissants and a small freshly squeezed OJ or one savoury breakfast pastry and a coffee. It's not bad value all things considered.

I thought OP paid £15 each?

rookiemere · 31/05/2023 17:11

OP didn't say if it was £15 each or in total .

But she says she effectively paid £15 for Rice Crispies. Presumably that means she ate a full English with the £15 for herself.

I don't know why you replied to me. I'm not the OP and didn't have a child with me

Bonbon21 · 31/05/2023 19:10

Well they were pretty mean with a partial refund for 1 breakfast.
Can I point you in the direction of Tripadvisor?
Just state the facts..

Startyabastard · 31/05/2023 21:54

Bloody hell, tight arse bastards!!!!
Yes leave a factual trip advisor review.

Sunshine275 · 01/06/2023 07:59

It wasn’t a certain one in Scarborough by any chance?

Anderson2018 · 01/06/2023 08:19

Yeah I used to work breakfast shift in a hotel and if they don’t have what they said they would then it’s reasonable to ask for a refund for your daughter, just explain that the only things she would eat they didn’t have. Just be nice about it, which you seem like you are so I’m sure they will be happy to help you.

Complain on trustpilot

It's TripAdvisor.. Not TrustPilot!!

Feraldogmum · 01/06/2023 08:26

False advertising is illegal. Get a refund for breakfast or give them a deservingly bad review.

Zanatdy · 01/06/2023 08:30

I’d be complaining and wanting her breakfast refunding as hardly any of the options were available

lieselotte · 01/06/2023 08:52

This would annoy me too as I don't eat a cooked breakfast.

The Premier Inn continental breakfast is quite disappointing anyway, I prefer to go to a cafe and get a coffee and pastry or tea cake!

Lambstails · 01/06/2023 09:00

Point out they have incorrectly advertised something they can't offer you and that as you now have to go out and buy your daughter breakfast elsewhere, you'd like a refund for her to enable you to do that.

Tirq3 · 31/05/2023 11:39

Sorry I’ve not been back in a while, we’ve been at the beach. The Premier Inn controversy made me laugh! It wasn’t a Premier Inn but an independent hotel. Anyway they gave me a partial refund for one of the breakfasts which was enough to get a couple of ice creams. Thanks for the nice messages x

do they want some ice cream for that burn OP? 😋have a great day

primoseyellow · 01/06/2023 09:33

This would piss me right off😂. I disagree that most people would have cooked breakfast.

LakieLady · 01/06/2023 09:42

Whenever I've stayed in hotels where breakfast is charged for, it's almost invariably been a disappointment. I don't bother now, I'd prefer to spend the money in a local cafe, which is usually cheaper anyway.

I also find the British idea of a "continental breakfast" is often a bitter disappointment compared to the breakfasts I've had in hotels in mainland Europe.

LolaMoon · 01/06/2023 09:44

YANBU - thats absolutely awful. I'd be asking for a refund.

MargotBamborough · 01/06/2023 09:48

YANBU. They haven't provided half the options that were on the menu and they should give you a refund.

billy1966 · 01/06/2023 09:54

This would irritate me greatly.

I love a nice buffet breakfast.

I would leave a stinking review of false advertising and report them.

People opt into having the breakfast on the basis of their advertising what it contains, so for them to not bother providing it is not acceptable IMO.

A stinking review and report them?

an independent hotel that didn’t deliver on breakfast and have a partial refund but we have no idea about whether all other aspects were good.

Seems a touch…. OTT

GiveupHQ · 01/06/2023 10:27

And when you say “report them”… to the police?!! 😂

FlounderingFruitcake · 01/06/2023 10:57

I’m hoping that poster means report to the booking .com or similar, if OP used one. I don’t think that would be totally unreasonable!

Quisquam · 01/06/2023 11:14

Nrtft, but we stay in mid range budget hotels regularly and imo, the Premier Inn breakfast is the best - especially if it’s cooked to order! It is exactly what it says it is on the tin. We have eaten breakfast in cafes sometimes, and while they may be cheaper they don’t tend to have unlimited hot and cold drinks, or toast/croissants/drop pancakes/etc with their accompaniments. You get what you pay for in that respect.

Ita OP is right to be miffed though!

Of course I do.

The police 🙄.

Report to the whomever you booked through, for the hard of understanding🙄😁.

But I repeat, I would be well pissed off to find the breakfast in no way resembled what was advertised.

I give regular reviews to sites as a result.
Particularly a good breakfast.

If OP read the breakfast was shite, she would have made a different choice, as would I.

Much better to spend her £15 locally than be ripped off in the hotel.
