I am just in awe of her common sense and bravery. I'm someone gender critical who is not able to speak out because I work with young people and have to be very careful what I say. It's so important to have representation like her for us.

I'm just watching Gender Wars, the thing that was on channel 4 last night. She is so elequant. Compare her to the black pampers activists

I think that for the first time in my life I have a “girl crush”. I’m full of admiration.

Hotcuppatea · 31/05/2023 09:06

I'm always so impressed by her ability to stay calm in the face of the ranters and ravers.

DrLouiseJMoody · 31/05/2023 09:07

Kathleen is one voice, with good and bad points like everyone else. I'm indebted to women who have changed policies and the law and who may not be in the media everyday but whose voices are no less important. Personally, I've no time for her since she makes a lot of noise about speaking out but told me directly that, since the York head of department was a friend, she could not support. The impression I got was that Kathleen is concerned not for ordinary women but brand Kathleen. I'll mute this thread now because she seems to have become a celebrity beyond reproach when the one thing I agree on with TRAs about this is that she's a nasty careerist piece of work.

BibbleandSqwauk · 31/05/2023 09:07

Agree with you OP. I am also a secondary teacher so currently also having to be careful and spend a fair bit of time giving non committal nods. I'm really interested in her views and pleased that Oxford allowed her to speak at the Union. (Or is planning to anyway, not sure if it's happened yet).

BibbleandSqwauk · 31/05/2023 09:10

@DrLouiseJMoody of course if you have personal knowledge of her that's fine but I'm not sure it's fair to condemn someone for worrying about their own career as well as principles. We can't all be absolute self crucifying heroes like Ed Snowden or so mega wealthy like JKR that they can afford to not care.

FrancescaContini · 31/05/2023 09:11

It’s because she’s an adult with very clearly thought out views that she can articulate confidently. The ranters and ravers on the other hand - despite being at a really prestigious university - are not adults but frustrated toddlers who can only use words of one syllable - “fuck hate” etc, whatever that means in this context 🤦‍♀️

FrancescaContini · 31/05/2023 09:13

@DrLouiseJMoody Nasty post

Doc Stock and her security team. Brave woman. And very cool.

Yanbu. Having watched her being interviewed by Ed Balls in which she came off looking like the only rational person in the room I congratulate her. What she is doing by speaking out cannot be easy given that she was flanked by security guards yesterday at Oxford, also the hate on SM. I have a DD who is at Uni and her opinions are very narrow minded and in the live and let live camp, DD and many of her age have not given thought to the much wider and darker issues surrounding this debate. Women should not be shot down just for saying what is basically the truth in a world full of nonsense.

Kathleen Stock was on Good Morning Britain This Morning | Mumsnet

although she got talked over by Ed Balls quite a lot. It'll be on ITV1+1 at about 7:40 I think until just before 8am.

I agree with this, and am also in a similar position to the OP. I have 59 years' experience of being a woman, but seemingly have no opportunity to question gender issues with the people who are so vocal on them. Like most things in life, I'd just like a little more understanding.

In which case, it was rather hypocritical of her at the time to say that colleagues failing to support her was complicity - she engaged in the very same behaviour. I was then bullied by her publicly and several friends received unwanted private messages concerning me. I'm allowed a view about someone who bullied and belittled. I can also acknowledge her contribution.

fireflyloo · 31/05/2023 09:33

I totally admire her. You can see from the documentary how getting up and speaking was anxiety provoking for her but she did it anyway.

Annaissleeping · 31/05/2023 09:36

I admire her intelligence so much. It is such a relief to hear someone speak so rationally and calmly.

CalistoNoSolo · 31/05/2023 09:36

She's a very thoughtful and considered orator, and stands in stark contrast to the 'kill all terfs' mob trying to shut her (and the rest of us who are concerned about TRA erosion of womens and children's rights) down on SM and last night in Oxford.

lljkk · 31/05/2023 09:51

Does anyone have link to transcript of last night's debate at Oxford Uni?

I would like to read what KS says for herself, not what everyone thinks about what she says & believes.
