Not clearing own table at cafe

I always, as a general rule, clear my table - and will continue to do so unless I have been given reason not to (poor customer service, bad meal, etc).

There is a couple sat next to me discussing whether or not that they should clear their table. He says yes, she says no.

Does it depend on how much you paid for your food? Does it depend on the setting? Just curious!

YANBU - You should clear your table
YABU - That's what the staff are paid to do.

Our M&S doesn't have racks. If there is a tray handy I will put my dirty dishes on it. They don't have many staff usually only 2 plus they are very helpful and will tell me at the till to go and sit down and they will bring me my food or drink if not busy. They do seem to know me now along with the other staff. One once gave me a packet of those little oat biscuits.

If it's a self clearance place then yes I would take tray to wherever. Even if it's not, I still always tidy the table and wipe it clean with a wipe and stack any crockery. I was told on here though that that is a glaring sign that I'm working class.

I’ll be honest and say I generally do but I’m definitely inclined not to when service is poor and I’ve had a negative experience. If they’re really nice I’ll make sure I’m super polite and help put everything away. Always a pleasure to tip in these cases too.

Surely it’s just a nice thing to do, to just leave the table reasonably clean and tidy? Be kind to waiting staff and don’t treat them like underclass servants.
