Father’s Day Opt Outs

I’m in a well grumpy mood today but am happy to be told that I’m being unreasonable in thinking that all the emails landing in my in box asking whether I want to opt out of emails relating to fathers day are totally unnecessary.
I totally get that those who have lost their dads might feel sad, I really do, but surely the email asking the question is no less triggering that an email advertising that Fathers Day is not far away
I get the impression that everyone now thinks that they have to send these emails out because they don’t want to be thought of as insensitive but does the world really need companies like Schuh to be offering an opt out.

I lost my dad 3 years ago and find these opt out emails more upsetting than general Father’s Day emails. I’ve no idea why but it seems to me like businesses want to be SEEN to be doing what they perceive as the right thing rather than taking 2 seconds to think about whether it’s a good idea

My OH lost his dad less than a week ago, he’s extremely upset. I have his email setup on my phone and every time I see a Father’s Day related one I unsubscribe and then delete it. If it’s very fresh in someone’s life then you should have the option. My own dad passed away 20 years ago and I can completely handle the FD emails. It’s good to give the option to not get these unnecessary reminders multiple times every day for the next couple of weeks though

I was very grateful to have this option when we lost mum, it was a very painful time, so to give customers the option, is a good thing surely?

I suppose one email about opting out is better than however many emails about the day.

Is it really that big of a deal to you? I doubt the brands are doing it out of the kindness of their hearts, it’s because many would unsubscribe completely because of the mothers/Father’s Day emails. This was they don’t lose subscribers.
