My DH bought himself 2 cases of beer...

My DH has been out all day on his man's secret MN hobby (you will never guess). He walked in after being out for 6 hours, obviously having come home via the shops, carrying 2 cases of beer for himself.
I said excitedly 'oooh! What did you get for me?'

Silence.

He's just sheepishly told me that he will make dinner this evening.
😆

You should have sent him back to the shop.

Yes.

It's mean to buy something for yourself and not something for your partner, presuming that your partner would prefer something else to beer.

azlazee1 · 30/05/2023 18:44

What ever happened to Yours, Mine & Ours? If 2 cases of beer are brought into the house shouldn't they be for both of you???

Pliudev · 30/05/2023 19:44

Bee people are heroes. Two spent 4 hours bee-vacuuming andnswarm from inside my roof the other day. But boiled egg and fennel? Had you drunk both crates?

Sparkleshine21 · 30/05/2023 20:04

If my partner walked in with beers my first thought wouldn’t be, what did you get for me? It would be: oh great, beers to share!

The question is what beer is it? I'd love my oh to walk in with 2 slabs of Budweiser right now Grin

Has to be peroni.

Stressybetty · 30/05/2023 21:26

My DH has one of those monthly beer deliveries which he now barely drinks. We have it piled up everywhere now. Keeps promising to cancel it but he'd have to ring up which is apparently too much effort 🤬

Sigmama · 30/05/2023 21:30

Sparkly black kitten, what is mumsnet for if not for 'non event' threads about bees and beers?

suzysnowball · 30/05/2023 22:00

I'd just assume he'd bought them for us both to share

Why be such a mardy arse? Honestly MN is filled with joyless fucks nowadays.

Beautifully put and very true @Simianwalk 🙌

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 31/05/2023 04:25

Beau's Lug Tread Ale ( might not be available outside Canada 🇨🇦) or Stella for me please!

I’m impressed at how such a lighthearted thread can STILL incite a bit of passive aggressiveness from the mumsnet brethren. Amazing.

also, LTB. Ducks in a row. Hide the assets etc etc 😂

Me too, love the passive aggression. Though I feel OP should skip the assets and go straight to hiding the beer. Then sneak one out occasionally and drink it in front of him, it'd serve him right. How dare he not bring OP something 😂.

OrderOfTheKookaburra · 31/05/2023 04:47

Hate beer. I'd have been very miffed if there wasn't a bottle of rose or at the very least a cider in there for me. In fact I'd have sent him back out to get something!! (If there wasn't something at home, that is).

They are heroes!

My DH sometimes gets requests like that, it can take hours of work sometimes in cramped or difficult to reach places. He loves it though.

And I agree, our dinner does sound a bit odd. It was one of those meals where you eat up stuff out of the fridge! Dinner yesterday was more normal. 😄

Good morning all!

Thank you to those of you who didn't take this too seriously.

To answer a couple of questions...

We made dinner together, we had griddled fennel, green salad, hard boiled eggs and bread. Delicious!

And his hobby? Beekeeping! Which means lots of lovely honey. 🙂

I am from the US and never heard of just eating grilled fennel. I thought it was something used to flavor things. Would you please elaborate on it a bit?

SpringHexagon · 04/06/2023 11:21

My guess would be golf 😂

Rosmarina · 04/06/2023 14:49

That behaviour is typical of a man . Its the masculine gene . They are more selfish on the whole in my experience . However I hear that some of them can be trained though I have never managed it ! I used to make beer for my husband , 40 pints, and it was gone in a flash . I prefer German lager myself. very nice in this weather !

surfergrl · 05/06/2023 14:15

Heehee mine does this all the time...oh Stella, lovely! (I don't drink any more, it's best for all concerned.) So did you get some eggs like I asked? Oh. Oh well! 😂 I have no idea what his love language is but it ain't gifts! I often buy him a little something when I'm out, even if it's just Rizla. I've long since given up expecting anything in return, that's not why i buy them, and he can be generous in other ways. I can totally see the look of 'Uh oh...am I gonna get told off now?' no mate but I am gonna get some pink fizz - you go for it!

SiobhanSharpe · 05/06/2023 14:33

I'm not much of a beer drinker but there's no denying that a cold lager on a warm day is very refreshing and satisfying, especially after mild exertion.
Has to be Belgian for me. Mine's a Leffe, ta.
