We're half way between St Austell and Plymouth and I need to buy some shorts and sandals. Plymouth serns a faff but is St Austell any good?
Apologies! Totally posting for traffic!

There is an Asda and I think a Tesco if you're not wanting high end.

HappiDaze · 29/05/2023 16:13

Yes I remember buying much needed items in a big Tesco when we were in Cornwall years ago. They had just what we needed. Fleeces and hoodies as I recall because it was bloody freezing during May half term

elevenplusdilemma · 29/05/2023 16:18

There's not much in St Austell besides supermarkets. Truro has fairly decent shops and would be better than driving to Plymouth (M&S, Primark, New Look, TXMaxx plus an out of town Next etc).

moregarlic · 29/05/2023 16:21

Truro has more choice than St Austell.

But if it's a choice between Plymouth and St Austell only, and you want a decent selection of shops to shop at, go for Plymouth.

TheMadGardener · 29/05/2023 16:23

Go to Trago Mills, just off the road you're on at Liskeard! You can buy ANYTHING at Trago Mills and you'll get to see the weird golden statues, the random aviaries and there's a cafe too!

Whattodonut · 29/05/2023 16:25

I was wondering Trago Mills. Will I end up looking a bit random?
Truro is an hour away which I was trying to avoid.

St Austell does have a TK Maxx and I think a New Look. Maybe some other clothes shops aswell but I don't go often. Plus the Asda and Tesco.
Trago do have all sorts there, always worth a visit.

Plymouth does have more shops than St Austell though or as others have said, Truro isn't bad either.

Other option is the retail park at Fraddon, theatres a Next, M&S and a TK Maxx

TheMadGardener · 29/05/2023 16:38

The whole point of Trago Mills is it's random!

You'll go in for shorts and sandals and come out with an inflatable dinghy, some wallpaper, a large poster of Elvis and being followed back to your car by one of the resident chickens! 🤣🤣🤣

Stepbystep100 · 29/05/2023 16:40

Looe has a Moshulu and a market type shoe shop, two ladies fashion clothes shops, some fashion beachwear shops (Seasalt, one that sells various surf wear fashions). Maybe a bit out of your way? If you are near Liskeard use the train to come down as its a beautiful journey and whilst it costs the parking is cheaper and easier at Liskeard Train Station.

Ann's Cottage surf and fashion wear shop os accessible from A30 (google them)

TK Maxx and Marks and Spencer at Fraddon (google for location right next to A30)

TheMadGardener · 29/05/2023 16:40

Bear in mind it's a Bank Holiday so lots of shops might be closing early/Sunday hours.

Sounds like OP is on the A38 though not the A30.

Stepbystep100 · 29/05/2023 16:52

Looe is fine for A38

Movinghouseatlast · 29/05/2023 16:56

Looe is your best bet, lots of clothes shops.

St Austell has TK Maxx in the 'shopping' centre.

Xiaoxiong · 29/05/2023 17:15

If you want to make a day trip of it, there's a Seasalt in Fowey, along with a couple of other boutiques, and a Fat Face in Mevagissey and a boutique called Fig which has nice sandals.

Whattodonut · 29/05/2023 17:35

You're all amazing. Trago Mills for the experience tomorrow and back up Truro if not.
We're near Liskeard.
Thank you!

Oh my, you've picked Trago. We now DEMAND an update tomorrow on what you actually bought!

Ffsmakeitstop · 30/05/2023 17:45

We're coming to Cornwall in a couple of weeks, first time for about 10 years. So looking forward to Trago again. No spectacular scenery and beautiful gardens for us. A massive completely random mill shop is the way to go 😂😂😂

Whattodonut · 30/05/2023 19:11

Not too random..

Wetsuits
Robotic spider
Water bombs
Tshirt
Towels
Picnic blanket
Make your own sun-catchers
Summer hat that makes me look like Worzel Gummage
Trousers
And ... Shorts x3

Still cheaper than my last supermarket shop!

Nearly bought a tent for 8. And a camping toilet. We have not been camping since we had kids 9 years ago.

I am now even more invested in this thread OP. I really, really love hearing what visitors think about Trago.

Stepbystep100 · 30/05/2023 19:41

Never realised I needed a robotic spider! I'll be down there next weekend!

Hope you enjoyed your immersive experience.

It's slightly less scary at Trago nowadays as you pay close to the doors. You used to pay around the store and have to keep your receipts as an escape pass at security. They'd look through your bags and tick the receipt items before releasing you back into the wild
