Schofield saga-to think this is all very odd?

It’s very confusing.
Rumours have been circulating for three years, even I knew the rumours, how on earth did Holly and others not?
He says there was no injunction, so the boy could have spoken out at any time..so why is it all coming out now?? Why has Holly suddenly distanced herself, why have itv got rid of him now?
They've now said the boy was 15 when they met (sure was younger?) and nothing happened until he was older, nothing illegal but still massively wrong. But if there is nothing illegal and they all knew about it…why now?
Why has P.S been so willing to go along with it this week?

This feels like a cover up for something much much worse?

Who is MM

GoOnHoliday · 29/05/2023 11:18

We don't know who is posting here, it could be PR as well as journalists or Theatre dudes with agendas.

RedToothBrush · 29/05/2023 11:21

Oo look. Eamonn is saying that PS is good at cleaning his social media when it suits him and Holly...

Meanwhile, Giles Brandreth goes on the show and says it's a happy place to work whilst Dermot's body language looks very uncomfortable and he takes a sip from his cup.

RedToothBrush · 29/05/2023 11:23

I feel for Alison and Dermot having to do the entire show without mentioning the elephant in the room or having guests on...

I believe these are the initials of the runner

I'm sat in a carpark in Wales whilst DH does shit actually. Twitter is hilarious. Loving the clips.

OrbandSpectacle · 29/05/2023 11:49

Everyone is going on about the power Schofield has, but he's gone from TM now, and is seemingly too toxic a brand to be considered for any forthcoming media work, so where is all that power now?

RedToothBrush · 29/05/2023 11:50

Holly begs to be free of her contractual obligations and shows awareness that if she tries to leave or is dropped her reputation is trashed even more:

Via the Mirror
“Holly is determined to stay put - the only reason she would leave now is if This Morning is axed. She has absolutely no plans to leave."

also the Mirror:
This Morning should be 'left to die with dignity' following the furore surrounding Phillip Schofield, according to This Morning's creator.

Dianne Nelmes, who launched the show 36 years ago, thinks the award-winning programme should be phased out, adding she thinks current host Holly Willoughby, 42, needs to leave now

Oh dear.

So this reads to me that Holly needs This Morning to be axed sharpish before getting axed instead.

This is the only video I've seen of this kind.
It states that there was an investigation into Schofield's activity with the runner or other minor and both were asked whether it had occurred when there had been suspicions. It's said that both denied it.
Sorry that it is a link from Facebook, it's all that I could find, but being channel 4 it's quite telling. 👈

This is just the demise of a rubbish show and all the cover-my-own-arse bad apples who must also go down with the ship and are only fighting it because they know they are unemployable based on their actual talents.

Holly isn't that much better than PS which is why they could maintain a dear friendship for years. Just look up her behaviour in relation to planning applications and works carried out on her house.

Because it's post Saville and post Weinstein in television.

Any responsible contract SHOULD have clauses about conduct on set and about relationships with junior staff. Plus it should be in line with general safeguarding principles which are now standard in the UK. This makes sleeping with someone you are mentoring even if they are over eighteen problematic. Because it's about power dynamics.

If ITV isn't training it's staff in safeguarding like this or writing it's contracts to reflect this - which are pretty typical now - there's an issue.

If they have written a contract like this and Schofield did this anyway and they didn't investigate there is an issue. If they did investigate there's still questions. And in it coming out it means Schofield was guilty of gross misconduct (and therefore shouldnt get a payout - remember he lawyered up and got one agreed despite all this before being forced to admit the relationship - that means he was potentially attempting to defraud ITV because he misled them by lying.) Lying to senior management probably would constitute gross misconduct in its own right as ITV had duty of care responsibilities anyway.

So it matters with or without the grooming of a minor allegations. Because it's effectively about public standards on a national broadcaster and abusing a position of power and trust.

Yes RedToothBrush That's the crux of the solution. Hope the public and the press continue to make a loud noise about it and Mnnet can start as many threads as they like. Safeguarding is the important issue and should be reflected in workplace policies and procedures to thwart the abuse of power - and acted upon.

I do t know what to say really. Are we all pearl clutching and pontificating because a public figure lied about an affair? What did you expect him to do then? What does everyone else do? Why should he be held to higher standards?

Oh shut up with the pedo-defending.

I'm an out lesbian and I've worked in TV for years. The entertainment industry absolutely has a culture where sexual abuse and harassment (not to mention huge abuse of power) is tolerated and accepted, where bullying culture is the norm, and where anyone who dissents sees their career suffer.

I personally have to go and work in this environment and suffer from it every single day. I personally have suffered significant career losses and loss of income because I won't tolerate abuse of power or pervs who exploit their fame to get sex from people they're in a position of power over.

Oh and amazingly?? That culture? Not exactly great for lesbians. And really not great for gay men either, since so many younger gay men get preyed on too.

Get to actual fuck calling me a pearl clutcher.

Elior · 29/05/2023 12:28

Yes - it's rife. I was groped by a thirty year old when I was work shadowing at a London law firm in my GCSE years .
DH's best friend was groomed at a similar age by an older, powerful guy whom he is still with today.
I took my DC out of his secondary school after early attempts at grooming him by a pedo TA at school.

It is everywhere and we need to carry on shouting about it constantly and unapologetically.

I've friends in TV. They've talked about onset bullying by senior male management before. They aren't sensitive types who have said this - they can really hold their own.

Im not remotely surprised the Schofield issue has come back around - precisely because it wasn't dealt with properly back in 2020. And now it's bitting ITV on the backside.

IncomingTraffic · 29/05/2023 13:08

@BeatrixKidd It’s astounding how determined some posters seem to be to minimise all this and/or dismiss and even vilify anyone who wants to actually discuss abuse of power and grooming by powerful men in the entertainment industry.

It’s a genuine problem. And discussing this problem, bringing it properly into the open, is the only way there will ever be a solution.

RebulahConundrum · 28/05/2023 17:08

Yeah I'm a bit confused by it all tbh. I thought it was widely known that he'd had an affair with an 18 year old, but it was all swept under the carpet and reframed as him being 'brave' to come out as being gay. But now it's being treated as huge news.
To be fair though I do think it's good that no one seems to have named the lad involved. Not sure if that's because of an injunction but I hope it stays that way.

It has, Matthew Mcgreevy is the last he had an affair with.

Firesgoneout · 29/05/2023 14:52

Well, there’s no going back now.

JenniferBooth · 29/05/2023 15:45

@BeatrixKidd Im sorry you have gone through all that. Horrific and completely unacceptable.

I think Giles Brandreth just seems like a happy nice guy and so people respond to him in kind. I bet he sees the best in everyone and pretty much just enjoys his life.
