To change my mind about giving free

I know I’m morally going to hell for this.

I’ve made a huge mistake advertising my sofa for free. My new sofa is arriving tomorrow & I panicked because i thought no one would have it as it’s got a broken cushion & cat scratches.

I gave it to this first person that asked even though he had no manners & he’s collecting tomorrow.

I’ve since had 47 messages, one very nice & polite offering £200. I don’t need the money but it’s a great sofa really & I would donate the money to a charity that I know is struggling.

Am I bring unreasonable to give it to the nice woman offering to pay? I know I probably am & I will get flamed!

Have you given out your address?

IamnotSethRogan · 27/05/2023 13:22

Just let the man collect and get it put of your way.

I don't think the women who is offering ti pay is actually that nice if she knows you've given it to someone and is trying to out bid

StarDolphins · 27/05/2023 13:22

Yes I have! I don’t want a brick though my window.

I wouldn't have given it to a man with no manners. Do you know whether he's hiring a van?

coodawoodashooda · 27/05/2023 13:22

If you've given out your address you will have to stick to the deal.

continentallentil · 27/05/2023 13:23

Just get shot of it to the guy who’s due to collect it.

It doesn’t need this headspace

She’s giving him a sofa, not dating him.

I know. I have made a mistake & I just have to deal with it I guess.

I am really funny about people with no manners, I do usually only give to the people that say please.

The OP doesn’t have to do anything!

I wouldn’t give it to a rude person.

DrFoxtrot · 27/05/2023 13:26

Agree with PP who said it doesn't need this headspace.

Enjoy your new sofa and forget about it.

StarDolphins · 27/05/2023 13:26

Yes I think I agree unfortunately & there was a lovely young single mum that said please & thankyou that I wish I’d have given it to also.

Oh well, It’s totally my mess up & I just need to stick to it!

Give it to the nice and polite person. Plus £200 is alot of money to say no to

StarDolphins · 27/05/2023 13:28

I advertised a rattan bench this morn & said I won’t be giving it to anyone with no manners & the first one says ‘I’ll take it’🤣

Tell the first man that a family member has asked for it

CadburyDream · 27/05/2023 13:29

There is nothing to say the women will actually pay and isn't just a messer £200 for a broken sofa? Haven't you read the posts on here of people buying stuff and then demanding their money back and harassing the op? There was a post the other day

I would but just thinking now, I’ve given him my address & I’d be worried he’ll come.

Yes I get you. I would give it to the nice girl with manners that seems to have nothing.

It’s just a zip broken & a cat scratch but it’s entirely my own fault for flapping in the first place.

Sometimes they see it as doing you a favour like they are getting rid of it for you so "helping you" 🙃

You’ll cancel the other guy then £200 lady will disappear forever most likely.

I wouldn’t judge you either way.

BillyNoM8s · 27/05/2023 13:33

I can just imagine if you sack off rude man, £200 giver will suddenly develop a reason why she can't pay and say it's OK anyway as you didn't want any money for it...

Save the hassle and just get rid of it. Fb people are notoriously unreliable.

BertieBotts · 27/05/2023 13:35

£200 person is surely a scammer??

And people are doing you a favour taking bulky stuff away for free. Yes, they are getting something in return, and no need for anyone to be rude or act entitled, but it would cost money and/or time, effort to get a bulky item disposed of another way.

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 27/05/2023 13:36

Just go ahead with the sofa man. We paid the new sofa retailer £80 to take our old one away, so you are still in profit.

OriginalUsername2 · 27/05/2023 13:37

By the way, just give the road you live in until they really need the house number.
