If my passport was issued in feb 17 and expired in nov 27 is it ok to go to Portugal? Worried about the 10 year thing. It was fine last year so I’m guessing it’s ok?

IT expires in Nov 2027? You'll be fine.

The ten year thing is if you are over the 10 years but still have 6 months left. You are not years from 2017.

I think it’s ok as the advice says it should be issued less than 10 years before you enter the country and it’ll be 6 years. But people at work are saying it won’t as it has 10 years 6 months on it?

Yes you’ll be fine as long as it’s less than ten years old. The problem is that they used to add on extra months leftover from your previous passport so some UK passports - like yours - last longer than ten years and won’t be valid in Europe for the last few months. https://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/consumer/holiday-cancellations-and-compensation/travelling-in-europe/

Yes expires in Nov 27. I checked it before we booked and was confident and others are now making me doubt myself. Thank you.

Ah thanks. Someone’s said as it has over 10 years on it it won’t be valid. That’s made me worry a bit. But I see that you mean the extra bit isn’t valid

You've misunderstood. It's the bit in excess of the 10 years that isn't included, not the fact of having that extra bit.

PuttingDownRoots · 26/05/2023 12:39

Your passport is valid until Feb 27.

Some countries may require you to have some time (like 3 months for the travel area on Continental Europe).

So if mine was issued in feb 17 I only have until Feb 27, not Nov 27?

Yes, for the EU.

GiltEdges · 26/05/2023 12:55

Your passport will be valid for travel to the EU until February 2027. It's currently May 2023. What's the issue?

Correct.

Yep but lots of places need you to have 6 months left before travelling so usable for those places until Aug 2026

Thanks all! Appreciate it.
