How is this even allowed (no toilets)

A charity have a sporting session every week in a park but there are no toilets?
How's that even allowed ?
Anyone else think it's awful?
I've heard people say go behind a Bush, that's not nice or practical.

Shouldn't have too anyway, they should find a venue, where they have toilets and changing facilities?
Would you attend?

This is such a depressing thread.

I really don’t know whether the OP is being reasonable or unreasonable. But in general I think people in the U.K. do have very low expectations about public services. And public toilets - or lack of them - are a classic example.

Ultimately we all have some very basic biological needs - food/water, sleep, breathing and yes - getting rid of the waste !!! Yet we have this ridiculous situation where people in the U.K are forced to go to the toilet behind a bush or stay at home.

Wee before you go. Or don’t go. Most parks don’t have toilets.

is the event mandatory 😵‍💫

I have never been to a park without a toilet. I thought all parks would all have a toilet unless very tiny children's playground ones.

KarmaStar · 26/05/2023 11:46

There's always the entitled one.
Find a different class.
I certainly would not want my donated money to go on hiring a toilet for the princess in the park.

Do you really think that every other country in the world has public toilets every 50 metres, open 24 hours a day? The uk is actually not that bad for providing toilets where they are needed.

Yes, ideally every single beauty spot and every event held will have toilets nearby but is it really that hard to understand that sometimes this just isn't possible?

ZZpop · 26/05/2023 12:01

There is no suitable toilet (changing place) for ds in most places. Welcome to our world.

Nicecow · 26/05/2023 12:08

No one is obligated to provide you with a toilet. And if it's in a park then there probably is one nearby. What a non-issue, don't go if it's a problem for you. It's hard enough for charities, let alone people like you inventing problems that don't exist.

Nicecow · 26/05/2023 12:10

In fact if it bothers you so much, do your bit and hire one for the duration of the event!

MwahHaHa · 26/05/2023 12:11

girlfriend44 · 25/05/2023 23:11

Of course, but you still.might need to go while your there or before you leave to come home.

You might even need the toilet because you feel unwell.

But thats true about literally anywhere....should there be toilets everywhere?

Puzzledandpissedoff · 26/05/2023 12:28

It's not so much about toilets being "everywhere* MwahHaHa as that this is an organised, charged-for event - and to my mind, if you're putting on something like that, there's a reasonable expectation that facilities will be in place

For example OP mentioned there was a leisure centre nearby, so why not have liaised with them?

LadyMuckingabout · 26/05/2023 12:30

People won’t answer the basic questions. How many public toilets should there be? Should every activity be legally bound to provide toilet facilities? Should that include, say, outdoor yoga with six attendees? What about popular beauty spots? Should there be toilets every ten yards up Snowdon.

I agree that in urban-ish areas there should be adequate toilet provision, and local councils should prioritise these (the money that is spent on some things would make your hair stand on end, starting with councillors’ allowances which would pay for everyone to have their own portaloo).

However, it is a pipe dream as the vandalism is horrendous. Plus drug use and plain shitty (of course) behaviour when people poo and wee all over the place.

There are lots of organised charged for events that don't have toilets right where you need them. You can pay for a day long hike in the forest, they don't bring a portaloo so there is always a toilet when you need one.

Lovingitallnow · 26/05/2023 12:34

They have a trade off between people who won't come because lack of toilets and people who will be priced out if they do the local leisure centre.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 26/05/2023 12:34

Of course they don't, but then if it's in the middle of nowhere that changes expectations

Whereas this one has facilites right nearby, but for whatever reason not being used

Which suggests there is a reason they aren't being used, doesn't it?

cestlavielife · 26/05/2023 12:43

Suggest they hire portaloo each week and increase the cost to pay for it

SusiePevensie · 26/05/2023 12:52

On what @ZZpop said - she's right. There should be more Changing Places toilets and it's really easy to campaign for one. Every time a place gives you a feedback form on what to improve, ask for one.https://www.changing-places.org/

As for how many toilets there should be - a damn sight more than there are. Getting back to where we were before the Tories trashed every bit of our infrastructure from trains to schools and from buses to loos would be a start. http://www.btaloos.co.uk/

Also - love the idea of 'adapting'. I can adapt pretty well as can all my family. Lots of people can't, or 'adapting' actually means doing nothing and going nowhere.

What if that makes it unaffordable for everyone, so the event folds altogether - what will that achieve?

While the hire charge for a portaloo is small, the delivery costs are enormous. So probably not practical, especially in a public place.

KnickerlessParsons · 26/05/2023 13:02

Invest in some Tena knickers?

Catspyjamas17 · 26/05/2023 13:37

GulesMeansRed · 26/05/2023 10:58

Exactly. Because your condition unfortunately means it's not suitable for you. You're not stamping your foot and pouting and saying it's not FAIR and they should be providing toilets for you.

Did you mean to be so disablist?

cestlavielife · 26/05/2023 13:38

So what does op want?

  • lobby council to put toilets for all
  • move event to toiletted location
  • hire toilet
  • cancel event
  • dont go to event

Yes, let's not be the best in the world, let's make the UK as shit as everywhere else.

For someone to have a bit of fucking thought for five minutes about where they hold it. Somewhere with not toilets - nope. Somewhere with toilets - yes.

Catspyjamas17 · 26/05/2023 13:43

ActDottie · 26/05/2023 09:43

How long is the event?

I do yoga in the park weekly, there are no toilets, I pay for the service - should she therefore book somewhere with toilets?

That's seems odd, and quite risky given what yoga does for your digestive system and pelvic floor from time to time, you definitely need a toilet handy just in case. I pay for yoga in a village hall, a studio in someone's home, someone's garden, a barn - all have toilets.

RampantIvy · 26/05/2023 13:43

As the OP is rather unhelpfully not going to say what type of event it is or the duration most of this is conjecture.

As I said earlier, an all day cricket match would require toilet and refreshment facilities. For a half hour tai chi class then it is reasonable to not expect either.
